Could they be giving me the TSW numbers? The back spacing I dont think they measured, I think he was reading those off the computer. I am way confused and more than just a little irritated that they wold sell me something that they SHOULD know isnt right. I called again this morning and he sticks with those numbers for the manufacturers numbers. He did give me a phone number for Beyern or TSW not really sure and he didnt know if they would talk to me at all as it is a retailers line? I wouldnt know where to start with them.1-800-578-4879
I told LS that the wheels he sold me were more than likely for a 5 series BMW and he said they werent vehicle specific to which I countered, yes, but I think the offsets are.I also told him I remember his service guy telling me he thought the tires looked small for those rims but they would be fine!! I will never make anoher move to buy something for my car before i check here first! I knew better.I will do some research and see if I can get someone to tell me what friggin rims I have....

I believe the +25mm off set is the one that needs the hub ring the +30mm off set are 72 centerbore which are hub centirc.

I do think his wheels are the primary source of his vibration problem. Also, you have to be careful. Some wheel company's use the cheap and easy to damage PLASTIC hubcentric rings.

Trainman, do you recall seeing these rings at any point before your wheels were installed? If so, did you notice whether they were plastic or metal?

Yes, they were plastic and i asked why not aluminum and they said the plastic were all that were available. I dont recall seeing them on the rear but I cant say and I am waiting for a return email from the manager with some more info. I will stop there in the morning on my way home and see for sure.
I had an Acura TSX that we had trouble with also and they used plastic hub rings, problem was finally resolved with metal rings. Could my problem be that simple to fix?

Yes, it could be that simple. The metal type hub centric rings are usually more precisely machined light aluminum alloy bands. They fit correctly, and don't get as easily damaged and or warped by high brake temps. I have actually seen a few plastic hubcentric rings that were partially melted due to the brake rotor heat transfer on the center hub bore.

So if I were you...

I would get myself a set of new aluminum hubcentric rings. That's if you can ever get those guys at LS to confirm that the wheels do indeed have a 74mm hub bore F&R. (E39 5-series)

If so, you need to order a set of 72.6mm to 74.0mm aluminum hubcentric ring adapters. Do not let anyone talk you into using the cheap plastic ones again! OK?

Let me know if you need the location of a shop that sells these.

BTW: The story they gave you about only having the plastic ones is very simple. They cost about 1/4 as much as the machined aluminum ones. That's the real reason.

Ok, I will try to print this up and take it with me tomorrow when I get back in town.I will insist they find and order me the right hub rings. I hope that will solve my problem. If not, I will more than likely have them take the rims and tires back and put the stock run flats back on for now. I will let you know and thanks again, you guys are the best.

The rear rims are hub centric, I saw it with my own eyes. The manager decided to put them on the road force machine and wouldnt ya know it one of the rear tires is bad. He said the run out was way high? Does that sound right? Anyway, they ordered me a new tire and I will have it on by saturday and will let you know if this slves the problem......

That's good news. Finally some solid info.

Yes, a tire with excessive lateral runout (wobble) will certainly cause a wheel vibration. (that will increases with speed)

Hopefully this solves the problem.

Did you or the store manager remove the front wheels as well? Did you get confirmation about the center bore/offset on those wheels?

The fronts were the 74 which you mentioned and so is why the hub rings, and the rear were 72 something, I am going to have alll that he showed me on the computr printed out. To be honest I was so damned excited that they found a bad tire I forgot about everything else!! I did tell him I wanted the aluminum rings for the front and his dealer said 30 days is the soonest so I may take you up on your offer to point me to someone who can provide them. Ill get the print out saturday when i go in for the tires. Cant wait to test drive it and feel my old ride again! Thanks again for all your help and I will post as soon as i get home saturday!

Those are the correct size. Keep us updated.

By the way...did you have to order these rings or were they in stock?

Put the new hub rings on today and it seems the rear rims which were supposed to be hubcentric werent, we took off one of the rears and sure enough the hub rings fit.So after a test drive the 80mph shudder seems to be gone but the front is wobbling like the tires are falling off! I called Mike as LS and told him about it and I asked him if I could bring it back in the morning and check the hub bore on the front. I figure if the rears were off so may the fronts? Im getting a little frustrated but I think once we discover for sure what the actual bore is we can get the correct rings. What a hassle, if the rims and tires didnt look and ride so much better than the Rf's, I would say screw it and put em back on. More to come...
