Bluetooth music streaming in E93 320d

Hi guys,

I have a 2009 E93 320d that comes already equipped with Bluetooth support for telephone, has a USB and aux jack in the center console and has the smaller 6.5" screen display attached with the CIC system installed.

I was initially looking at upgrading the size of the screen to the larger screen but after some reading, I learned that this would involve changing the entire navigation stereo system (which I'm not willing to do) so now I just want to add Bluetooth music streaming to my car.

After some extensive reading, I realize that this would just involve installing a combox + some coding but before I go ahead and purchase the combox I wanted to ask whether there were different models of the combox and if so, which would be best for me to buy? Is this the best way to go about installing streaming in an E93?

Thank you in advance for your help.

If you want to just stream music you should get tune2air. I love it and it’s just like factory. You can use steering wheel controls and it displays on the idrive screen and auto connects.

Thanks for your reply.

Are you still able to use your telephone via the idrive system even with the tune2air installed?

I'm really keen on installing the combox. I like the idea of having all the factory hardware and controlling it all via the idrive system.

There are 2 different types of combox. Combox Media and combox with telematics. The telematics one is for BMW assist, and will have 2 extra black plug connections on the front right side. You can use either, but the telematics is pretty much pointless now so most just do the combox media.

Thank you. Are there different models of the combox media or are all of them the same?

From what I have read, I'll also need some wiring and coding to be done on the system in addition to buying the actual combox - is this right?

Thanks once again.

BN2000 is the one for E series. BN2010 is for F series, and yes, you will need to do a retrofit harness and VO coding. You will also need to do a production code change to at least 0311 for enhanced bluetooth which allows for streaming. If you plan to DIY, do a lot of research, especially if you are coding it yourself. There are plenty of good threads on it. You can do the hardware retrofit and then have someone code it remotely as well.

Awesome. I think I'm going to try and get all the hardware together, install using a guide and then have someone remotely code it.

I've contacted the guys at Bimmertech to see what they can offer. I'm in Australia and it's a bit more difficult to find people who do this sort of thing.

Is there anywhere I could find the wiring and other hardware I would need?

You can get the combox via Ebay pretty cheap, or find a local dismantler in your area to source it. As for the wiring kit, there are several members here that you might be able to source it from. You might want to post a wanted ad on the forum. I recommend Alex@alpinemss for coding. He is on the forum. He is in California, but remote coding worldwide is no problem.
