Install another amp? I already got BPTHA555, want more bass
so i got the bp tha555
and i had the european business stereo, you know 6 speakers total. i used the pnp harness, installed new mids and tweets, and sws-8's and im not pleased, sound is great. but i want more bass, i was thinking of another 12" or something in the trunk maybe? in that case, what amp should i buy? how should i connect it? i only wanna cut in the pnp harness, not in the original harness from the car. do i need anything more? i dont want my lights to dim more than they do now. so, what amp, what bass and how should i do this? |

Well if you don't want slot of power get a Jlw3 or something and a 300w amp to run it. Doesn't the Bp tha555 have preamp outputs? Just get your signal from there and run new power, ground and remote turn on lead if your not using signal sensing. As for the dimming problem I noticed my lights dim more when I had my amp grounded to the grounding terminal by the wheel well...ground directly to the battery and there is slot less dimming. Can't really fix that unless you get a high output altenator or a higher capacity battery. Caps don't really help in most situations.

Just got an alpine MRP-M500 and a Type-R 1242D. I'll be putting this in after I come back from vacation. But this may be too much. I'm not familiar with THA 1250. Yes you need a remote. Don't you already have one with the THA555. I don't know much about that one either.

so i searched for the amp and the woofer you sent, wow. they seem to be great together. but i think i would need a power cap with that :P lets see if i can find someone to help me install them and find the stuff in europe
this sub seems to be big. isnt there anyway to fit it it and have some trunk space left what about putting the sub into the side where the battery is, or the other side? Last edited by piggelin; 03-14-2010 at 07:14 AM.. |

Where did you get the harness from? Does it have Line output converter (LOC)? DLS looks soild. You can get a custom fiberglass enclosure made by a local shop. I'm getting the zenclosures box. I'm not really concerned with the trunk space. Also in the post 2 spaces above, you mentioned a digital rem? I don't know what that is. But there are only 3 ways to getting a REM lead (that I know of): using a relay, a LOC with a remote trigger, or using the OEM (for all systems) rem lead from pin#13 in the back of the oem HU. Pin#13 is pin#10 at the amp harness, I believe in some applications. I do know that L7 doesn't have pin#10 in the amp harness though.

I didn't see it on there. I mean don't feel compelled to buy the alpine stuff because I got it. Get what's available in your country. It will make things allot easier, especially if you ever need to get your stuff serviced. Get some opinions from locals and see what they say about good brands. Any amp and sub will work as long as it is installed properly. If you still want to go with the alpine stuff, check out ebay. Or if you want to order from the US www.sonicelectronix.com is a good place. I imagine shipping will be high though. I do recommend getting the sub new though. You don't know what the previous owner has done it...set gain to high, etc. Used amps are ok. Less likely to have a problem. Both my amps are used...JL 500/1 and MRP-M500 and they perform great. They are even under rated.

dude i didnt see ur msg. well, in europe, our stock SUCKS, it really SUCKS. no amp, nothing. in usa, u get the hifi system stock, we have to pay extra for it. so i changed all my speakers and added a amp, which made it improve. alot. im not 100 about the hifi system, so if anyone knows this better, just step in! well now i want more bass, so i was thinking one more mono amp and a heavy bass. |

I would advice first to find out what's wrong with your connection/wiring/amp, as the THA555 is less than half as powerfull as my amps (PDX-5 and PDX 4.150) and no lights dim in my car at all, even when the car is off.
Another amp will make your situation worse. |

This is what I first did...you're talking about the grounding block, correct? I had dimming problems in my license plate lights and interior lights. I moved my ground directly to the battery terminal and I have alot less dimming. It's barely noticable now. Before, when it was grounded to the grounding post, my lights dimmed everytime bass hit...I only had a JL 500/1 powering SWS-8s at the time. I just blew them though. Going back to stock and a trunk sub for awhile.
