From electronic point of view it can be done, but you have to check if there is enough clearance between sway bar (it’s thicker than “non M” one), under tray plate and oil sump of S65.

The power steering rack next to the front of the electric motor has a cover which has 5 bolts.
These are allu bolts and probably need to be replaced if removed. I Can't find a code for them anywhere |

I have completed the retrofit. Thank you very much for the guide and answers!
It works great. Just need SP-Daten now to code it. The power steering assist level is just too much ![]() |

Please educate me, why would you go to this amount of work.
I hear people wanting mechanical power steering for its superior road feel And changing electric back to hydro assist |

I have stated that in one of the first replies. I was bored of repairing hydro power steering, while stationary power steering in my very car was weak so I wanted to resolve all of those issues in one go. I love hydro power steering for its feedback, but amount of time that you can appreciate that on daily car is limited to be honest
That’s why I went in this direction on my previous car. |

Hi, I've read the entire thread and didn't realize how easy you make this look, thought it was much more difficult. The coding part also seems quite difficult for now lol, my E92 is a drift car, I will attempt the coding but is it really that needed? Thanks

So coding isn’t that hard. Basically the purpose of coding FA code is to get NCS to recognise EPS and with that you will be able to change coding for specific car body (coupe, sedan etc.). Also coding is needed, because other modules have to know that EPS is installed like DSC.
But overall this mod is not that hard. Two beers, one evening and it’s done To be honest it took me more time to remove hydraulic power steering than install electric one. The best thing is that electric rack cannot leak ![]() |

Edited: My DSC is always deactivated along with ABS and many other things, loads of lights on the dash, will it still work? As I understand the plug and wires to DME are necessary for this to work
And all EPS are the same? I got my eyes set on a cheap one that comes off an E93 but n43b20a engine from the same year as mine 2007 Worst case we'll have to TeamViewer each other and I wouldn't mind sending you a little donation for your time haha Last edited by Na7anael; 05-30-2025 at 08:05 PM.. |

It probably could work without DSC, but question is if the servotronic will work (so the function where wheel is heavier with speed increase). If you will need any help, don’t hesitate to write to me

Hello kolopn! Thank you for this thread and for responding and still helping people out!
I have finally installed the EPS and now I have to connect the wires in the ECU box. My car is LHD e92 335i rwd automatic with MSD80 ecu (n54), for Europe market, build date 07/2007. In the ecu box i have found three plugs - black, blue and purple. Of the three, only the black plug (P/N 7550520) has PT-CAN wires in them. But what confuses me - there are two pairs of them! I dont have access to newTIS. Maybe you can tell me if I should tap into pins 5+6 or 7+8 ? Not sure, but I think the black plug is X6021 https://photos.app.goo.gl/65r9yH2RpQ7pX81U6 |

It doesn't matter which pair will you pick. Both are same PT Can but coming from different module. One pair is from DME, EKPS and Gear switch selector. Second pair is from Footwell module and Longitudinal dynamics management. Pick any pair and connect to it. Good luck! |

A quick update! I soldered PT-CAN wires to 5+6 and wake-up signal in the ECU box and added 70A fuse for my EPS. After doing that I had a small victory of assisted steering working without coding.

Great! So right now just add FA code, recode FRM and CAS, then recode modules that I have shown on first page (without for example coding KOMBI, you will not get any notification on EPS error). If you want to have everything perfect you can change vin with tool32 or just flash it with WINKfp and also you can code specific platform to your car on eps.
Quick note - wiring diagram is showing that stock fuse is 100A. I don’t know if 70A will cause any problem, but maybe when power consumption of eps motor will be increased during hard manoveurs maybe there will be possibility that 70A will not be enough. |

Hi OP, I'm about to do this in 2 days as I've got everything ready. I only had a quick look at my DME, didn't get a chance to take it out and have a proper check. Do these interlaced wires look like the right ones? I still need to find the green one tho, will open it up and take it out tomorrow so I can see it better
