370z is cute, but for $379 (for a JB stage 1) the 335i would leave that 370z in the dust. If it's an N54 335i, you can leave the 370z in the dust for even less money. $199 for a JB +

that must of been a stock 335. last time i was at OSW there were a few 335i with FBO and tune running high 11s on stock turbos.

a modded n52 would be a fair race against that 370.

I’m actually surprised. But we don’t know much about the 335, and we can presume the driver of the 335 likely didn’t know much about it either cause it had a dealership temporary tag on it. The 370z has some mods and maybe the 335 isn’t running right or driven well.

On paper it seems they should be very close, closer than that video looks.

From motor trend 2017 370z test:

“At the drag strip, the base 2017 Nissan 370Z reached 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and finished the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds at 102.7 mph. We've tested eight other 370Z models, including two convertibles and two NISMO models, since it arrived for the 2009 model year. In testing, past models reached 60 mph in 4.7-5.1 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 13.3-13.6 seconds at 102.9-107.2 mph.”

From Car and Driver 2008 335 test:

0-to-60-mph time: 4.8 sec
Quarter-mile time: 13.5 @ 106 mph

We own a 370. We own an X84 N55 (basically a heavier, less handling E91).

The Z is a high output NA, likes to be above 4K.

The N55 has far more torque under the curve and of course is tunable without much money for 3-5psi and 50/70 or so.

Equal drivers and traction I would expect a stock N55 to nose out a victory at the strip.

At the end of the day, its a juvenile pissing contest as anyone with a SBC will own either car and have far more money left over to treat the laaaa-dieeeees to a nice steak dinner.

Subjective note: The Z is far more fun to drive when the road isn't strait. Old tech and all, its still a solid chassis and responsive engine.

different class of cars, but the 370z is a pretty good buy if your comparing stock for stock. Good power, reliability and low maintence costs. I love the very mechanical notchy manual in those cars.

Obviously, with a N54, you invest $200 in a mhd tune and it'll blow the doors off that car, just the power of turbo.

yup the 335 was stock. i chatted with the guy for like a minute at the light and he said he had just bought it. i dont doubt a bit of work on the 335 and it would take taken it.

but interesting you say that about the 330i. hopefully ill get headers and a tune and see what i can do.

You N54 flyboys need to give it a rest.

well from what i know from talking to the driver at a red light its completely stock and he has literally gotten it that day. so driver experience could have had a role in it. but like you said, who knows if its even running right. The 370z almost has a straight pipe, just with a muffler. no tune or any other modifications.

On the autobahn I had a 370z barely pull from my wife's 328i. My 335i would eat it as a snack..

Yup, nothing can fix a lack of talent behind the wheel.

I am not an avid 1/4 racer: I like my cars to turn. I do have respect for the talent and physics involved in getting something to move like that and have car friends who are far more talented then I am. I was happy when my NA honda broke 15: kids have it too easy these days :P

The ZF 6 speed is not a bad transmission at all: hardly a slow shifter in sport mode (I use paddles on ours all of the time). If anything someone with an auto has the advantage as it takes talent to shift a manual quickly and smoothly. the Z's manual transmission is stupid easy to shift: one of the best I have ever driven.

The Z is a very linear NA engine, its not going to toss you back into the seat but when you drive it hard and shift above 7K you look down and realize wow going 90 already. Its sneaky fast.

Two relatively close cars, all about the launch and shifts in the 1/4 methinks.

Here's a 50mph roll race between G37S (same motor as 370Z) and a bone stock 335is. From what I've seen I have always seen N54s take the win whether from a dig or a roll against stock VQ V6s. This is in Orlando too lol.
