But seriously, let’s be civil and not call each other dumb or cheap. Forums are supposed to allow people to express their opinions.

actually I said that willfully ignoring basic maintenance that may save you a many thousand dollar component and it's replacement to save $100 in transmission fluid was dumb.

I didn't call a person dumb, I said their actions were dumb.

you should try reading comprehension.
it's amazing.

And opinions are great with respect to certain things; how things look, how things feel, or the feeling something gives you.

A problem arises when you apply opinions to mechanical things and maintenance. People go eschew from scientific facts when the marketing department from large companies like BMW say things like "Lifetime". There is a gap in knowledge that allows people to take those statements to extremes. In reality, not a lot changed in the mechanical systems involved allowing something like a "lifetime" fluid to exist. What did change is the money involved (bmw paying for some maintenance) and the marketing department followed suit.

Opinions are great, for certain things. For others they aren't.

How many miles have you driven since changing the fluid? I just picked up a E91 with 140k and am apprehensive of changing at that mileage if it's never been done before. No transmission issues currently and worried a fluid change could make it worse by dislodging some of the grime. Anyone have bad experiences following a transmission fluid change on a high mileage vehicle (pretty sure mine has the GM tranny)

I just picked up my e92 recently with 105k on the clock.

I'm doing my trans and diff fluid this weekend. It runs perfectly fine, I'm doing it more for peace of mind. 100k on any fluid, life time or otherwise, is pushing it.

change it.

the horror stories you hear about "changing the fluid killed my transmission" are from people changing the fluid on a transmission that was already boned.

if it works fine now it will work better with fresh fluid.
