Good point I seem to have links to something in those first lines
where you don't.

Also funny you have a battery low icon that's Red .

This is what my Rhiengold and sqlite directory's look like

I looked at my registry and there are entries for Data version and Data Version En-GB where the version numbers match yours for Global Data and Language Data.

There is nothing for Data R4.01

Have you ever looked at your registry entries? I have the feeling this could be the problem for me. Something probably went off kilter with the install.

Since mine worked I did not go deeper.
The trouble I had most was getting the ocx files
in and registered I think that was in Inpa .
(Because of the new win 10 Admin Mode)
I didn't bother with the network update since it was
way beyond what they asked for for version number.
Did that in the MHD version under windows 7 (they had
some of the first DIYs that did not require things like
Icom emulators ,years ago .
I would guess updating the network version is
something that you do to satisfy the software not something
that adds a function.

I remember having to do Hkey edits with DIS57 and learn to use
a Virtual machine with the same but that was a long time ago.
The newer installs have command files that are suppose to do that
stuff for you I thought. One thought is you must install them in
Admin mode to get stuff in correctly of at all. It looks like it would
through errors if it couldn't do an install though.

Yea the INPA ocx changes were a bit tedious.
My sqlitedb folder is exact same as yours - even file size.

Are you comfortable looking at your registry entries? If so it might shed light on my issues.

Which ones I haven't done that kind of stuff in awhile.
I kind of remember something about having to have a certain level
of microsoft visual C++ I have 2005 through the present installed

When I see that stuff about method not found back when
you first forced it to open from the exe file it makes me think
of that as it seems to be a compile error maybe?
the ista program is asking for a version of C++ that' not there
maybe.

Only thing I have on my command path that relates is C:\ediabas

If you don't mind looking, the registry paths are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ WoW6432Node \ BMWGroup \ ISPI \ ISTA

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ WoW6432Node \ BMWGroup \ ISPI \ Rheingold

I understand if you don't want to dig into this.

I would like to find out why your system isn't working but
what makes this tedious is when I take a png screen shot
and save it and try and post it . (Got a save as a jpg of course )It won't let me post because the image has to many bits so then I have to back and resize it.
It got some of the images it will take me a little while to size them down,
Did you get my message about C++ when it says method not found
that screams wrong C++ to me.

Nothing stands out with the registry. Don't know exactly what I'm looking for other than a difference.

During the install there were at least 3 installations or repair of Microsoft Visual ++. The only ones I have in my programs are Microsoft Visual C++2013 redistributable (x86), ++2015 (x64) and ++2015 (x86). Maybe I should go out and download more. You have every year from 2005 on?

No but probably need to reinstall with the new software. I'll give that a try this evening.

Kind of feels like you windows 7 is broken or doesn't have the
right base software to run this properly.

Please post the fix
Thanks

Success!!

I haven't connected to the car yet but it accepts my VIN. All the version info and the ediabas connection option are there.

I reinstalled from an extracted version I had saved on an external hard drive so I'm not absolutely sure this is the Bimmergeeks version. I had downloaded 2 or 3 packages over the last months. However, I'm pretty sure it's the BG version.

Almost for certain one of the Visual C++ redistributables I downloaded was the key.

Again, thanks much for helping me get this going. Now I need to learn how to use the program.

One of the things that is nice is you don't have to be
hooked up to use the database that's in it .
You can cruise it at your leisure .

For instance put in something like RLS (Rain Light Sensor)
in the search box and everything related to the RLS
comes up install procedure with pictures, calibration procedure
schematics etc etc.
The error codes all have english explanations and also
can be dropped into the search box.

Some where near the begining of this thread I think I put
up the links to the manual for ista D.

Can't you also pull it up if you hit the ? box at the top of the grey ISTA top icon bar?

Not sure if this is a consistency or just by chance, but my first ISTA install didn't work well when I uncompressed over a network connection. It took when I put the compressed file on the desktop and the extracted completely to the location. Odd since I thought programs have bit checks now, but it was a thing.

My failed installs were all from downloading then unpacking the files to the computer's hard drive. I thinking it was the fact I didn't have all the Visual C++ packages. No way to tell which one did the trick though

I know it's almost 5 years later, but can confirm. I was getting the VIN not assigned error. I'm running in VMWare on an M1 Mac with an ARM version of Windows, so I had only installed the ARM version of the Visual C++ runtimes. I went back and installed the x86 and x64 versions as well and now it's recognizing my VIN.
