Errors after 4 wheel alignment went wrong - solved

Hey all, hope you are well

I had 4 wheel alignment done yesterday prior to a long journey, they adjusted drivers rear toe and attempted to do the same on passenger rear before the seized eccentric bolt snapped off, long story short the alignment could not be completed and after securing the track arm with standard nut and bolt, i embarked on my journey, within ten mins of hitting the motorway an array of errors came up, it may be worth noting the steering wheel is now approx 45 degrees off to go straight.

Is it a sinple case iof getting the alignment corrected? And maybe reset all errors?

I know the answer will be apparent once i sort it tomorrow however i thought id post for others to benefit if i manage to sort it

Once yr alignment is sorted the errors will go...AFTER you drive about 10miles or so. Basically if the car is out of alignment more than a certain amount it throws the codes.

Had proper 4 wheel alignment done, they put weights in the car etc, however the lights are still on and steering is still off center,

Would a steering angle sensor reset solve this?

No idea mate, just went to a bmw specialist who said if he re calibrates the sensor the car will still drift to the right, he has suggested to go back to the tracking place and tell them to re do tracking making sure steering is centred.

Exactly as you advised mate, went for a long drive and returned with codes still on, switched car off went indoors and when i used car again the lights were gone.

Thanks for the tip, just need to sort this steering not being centre issue

Glad is all sorted. Steering should have been centred when the alignment was being done. May need another visit to the alignment shop to get them to rectify it

Edit: so i am sat at the alignment place for the 3rd time as car still pulls right when holding steering straight, this time i was adamant to set steering wheel myself before they clamp and do alignment

Fingers crossed it will be sorted now, these bmws are a pain for alignment!

Not sure what's going on with yours man but my E92 was super easy and straightforward to get spot on. If today's alignment doesn't sort it out, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with my mate who does Hunter alignments. If he can't get it perfect, there is something wrong with the car.

Who did you use mate?
I am going to need one shortly and need someone reputable. My steering pulls to the side too and im sure it will be worse after my new control arms and coilovers go on...
So need someone that knows what they are doing.

How much do they charge?

Hey bro, yeah I need to tell you about my arch work as well as the alignment etc, and help you get it all done. Drop me a line on FB and we'll get talking about specs/pricing/contacts. All work is in different locations just West of London.

Hey guys, after getting another reputable alignment place to do the alignment again the issue has been sorted, looks like the first place was doing something wrong after all

So if anyone has a mis aligned steering wheel, get alignment done properly and hopefully that should be the end of it

Hell yes.

To be honest, I wondered why the OP had gone back to the same place again after they snapped a bolt the first time. I'd be avoiding them like the plague, as what with that, and seemingly not having a fucking clue about how to do a proper 4WA on 3 separate occasions, i'd be asking for a refund at the very least.

I don't go anywhere fancy, my local "Nationwide" tyre place does mine (as they have a new Hunter machine) and I never have any issues.

I used to go to Hounslow Tyres, as Raff down there knows what to do with lowered motors as well.

Hi, i did not go back to the place that snapped the bolt, never will either.

The 4 wheel alignment place in leicester 'leicester brake and tyre center' were highly recommended, however they could not get the steering to be centered, eventually i did get a refund so fair play i guess

I then went to goodwin tyres in goodmayes/seven kings -essex

First attempt made no real end to the saga, but second visit proved successful and all sorted, it just needed to be tweaked a bit he said

Just reading this as mine had codes come up after I had the track rods changed but not tracked (friends garage can't do it), had it tracked now but the lights still haven't gone off. I've only driven a few miles since the tracking was done this morning. I read somewhere else to disconnect the battery for 15 mins then do lock to lock which I've done but no change so far. Will try driving it a bit further.

Also, my alignment place snapped a rear bolt on the camber as the bolt was seized in to the bush, which I've seen myself, no amount of whacking was freeing it. So I just need to replace the arms with new ones (which again my friend will do). So just saying don't put a snapped bolt immediately down to a bad place. Place I go to is the only one I trust.

You are right that a seized bolt is a seized bolt, a lot of places actually wont even try to undo it in case it breaks so its give and take really

I drove for approx ten miles, turned car off and on again which made lights disappear, i doubt the lock to lock thing really works as steering angle reset needs to be done on a computer,

Hth

I drove about 10 miles total after the alignment and it finally reset.

Yellow handbrake light
Yellow Traction light
Yellow Tyre deflated light

All with ! were my fault.

Just thought it might help someone googling as I couldn't find much.

Need to get my rear arms replaced now, then get the rear tracking done.
