Is there a difference between the waterpumps?
Hi,
As your all probably aware the 335i N54 water pump's can be temperamental and can let go at any time. Now my water pump is fine however the thought came to me today and I wondered if the BMW 1M water pump is any better and if so would it fit on a stock 335i N54 block?? Also if the pump is stronger and better than it should definitely aid the cooling of the car in the summer should I decide to fit the JB4 G5 kit to my car

Mine went late last year first sign was the fain that kept staying on then the car went into limp mode.
To the best of my knowledge the water pumps are the same item from memory the part number ends in 885 or something like that. |

Same pump I think - RealOEM for 1er M Coupe (roadster not listed) vs RealOEM for 335i.
Steve, FYI, the part number ending 885 was superseded in 2012 by 11517632426, which is the new style Continental pump that doesn't have rubber vibration damping on the mounts, so needs shorter bolts (20mm instead of 32mm).

3 miles down the road and the amber warning flashed up on the dashboard and then 5 seconds later the red warning. Managed to limp it off the dual carriageway into an industrial estate and then began the long wait of 5 hours before they got a suitable recovery truck out to tow me back to their depot. 11 hours that journey home took in total, but thankfully the pump got replaced under warranty and I picked her back up again on Friday. Was so nice to get out of the Chevy Spark hire car and back into a proper car! |

would be interesting to know for sure of any differences between years on water pumps.
when my one started to leak (at 189,000 miles) I used a 2nd hand one off a 2008 335i that was being broken for spares and it fitted fine (and was only £35). |

Water pump was redesigned at some stage. The newer one requires different screws to mount compare to the old one. My 08 (Oct 07 build date) car had the older pump. Not sure when the new ones were fitted as stock.
