Where in the GTA to install carbon fiber Spoiler?
Looking to buy a CF trunk spoiler for my e90 at some point. Was wondering if you guys know of any good places in the GTA for the install.
Thanks. |

The trunk spoilers that you are likely looking at (M3 style, performance) are fairly easy DIY jobs. If anything you just need a friend who has a good eye to help line things up right, after that it's pretty much press down on the double sided tape / betalink. If you're looking to install a big wing style spoiler then most of the guys will likely send you to RMP, Bimmersport, Speedstar or Ivo @ Columbus Auto although I suspect it wouldn't be too bad of a DIY job either.

Is 3M double-sided tape enough to keep it secure?

there are quite a few reviews in the exterior modifications forum where people have installed the spoilers using 3M tape and it has indeed been pretty solid.
I think it might be cheaper and a better alternative to have one of the guys from the forum help you out. |

Thanks. I guess for me it's kind of hard to picture tape holding it down...lol. Is it warmed up? How exactly does it cure?

lol I know what you mean. I haven't done it myself or used 3M so I don't think I'll be able to help you much with the answers you're looking for.

Just make sure you get the tape meant for automotive use, clean the area (both the bottom of the spoiler and trunk area) so that the tape adheres properly, and apply constant pressure for a few minutes. I was hesitant at first as well but it does hold. If you're really worried you could use the BMW betalink stuff which is more of a industrial strength glue from what I understand. Most guys use the double sided tape so it can be heated and spoiler removed for reselling. When in doubt you can also ask the guys at the 2 meets coming in May.

I DIY'd the betalink and it looks flawless. All you need to do is keep the spoiler in place temporarily with some painters tape and tape off the entire perimeter outline of the spoiler. This helps line it up as well as prevents any bleeding of the beta link from showing on your paint. Remove the tape holding on the spoiler and clean the surface areas. Don't go nuts with the glue and have a friend help put it back in place using the taped outline as a guide, place and hold in place with more tape. Mine looks factory except it isn't coming off without alot of damage to the spoiler and paint.
