Concerning ista d and Inpa actually they both use ediabas folder for there source files. The difference is ista d is a higher level program .
ista d has an additional database to support the online manual, guided troubleshooting and schematics.
When you update the Daten files both programs use the files I believe.
Also I don't know why the download at Bimmergeeks would support
Euro engines only . Doesn't make sense.

Ista has way more power and is in English.
You can search for stuff and it will bring up all the related procedures
for repair and adjustment with links to schematics and pictures of the
hardware.

It doesn't work for coding or programming(that well )
ista P is and all or nothing programming proposition

Click and read the link. It's easy, and everything you need to know is there. Free form, rectangle, window and entire screen snips are easily doable...once snipped, you can save it or email it, annotate and highlight things...all directly from the tool. No need to open another program.

I have downloaded Mike's Easy BMW Tools which include INPA, Tool32, NCS Expert and WinKFP. I used Tool 32 to remove the Steering Lock error which had prevented me from starting the car for over a month. After the error was removed, the car now cranks but does not start. No codes show up in INPA. The fuel pump 20A fuse and the relay in the glove box are good. Any ideas on what the fault might be? Thanks

Hi Folks,

i ordered an k+Dcan kabel and istalled INPA to play a bit with my E91. But i run in to a problem. I can not read or access 3 modules DME/DDE, EKP and TEL .
I got a comunication Error from INPA. I the Identification list there are no descriptions for these 3 modules as shown on the picture.

The car is rurning fine with no problems. So i assume there is no problem with the modules?

Do you have any ideas why i cant access these modules with INPA? I wanna try with ISTA to after i install it.

How old is the battery and is it fully charged? If its been sitting for over a month it won't be fully charged.

ISTA is much more powerful and useful than INPA. I recommend installing it and doing another scan. It may just be a CAN BUS issue that is preventing access to them. ISTA will tell you a lot more than INPA.

Better go to the coding sub forum for these questions.
It's been said that cars made after 3/07 need and Icom
cable to code Most Bus modules but the DME is not one of
those.

I have put in a new battery. I tried using INPA to recalibrate the EWS, but i got this error: EDIABAS - Error
ApiResultText: Error #19
IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROL UNIT
API job error or no such result!
Continue script processing? Yes/No
Selecting either Yes or No takes me back to the start point with no change to the problem.

Try posting a new thread with your fault and also include fault codes present if any.

SUCCESS!!

After struggling with my "crank, no start" problem for months, I decided to start from scratch. I deleted all the files I had downloaded from various sources and downloaded "Standard Tools" from https://www.bimmergeeks.net/downloads.
Opened INPA, Selected "Body", "Car Access System", F6 to activate. Ignore the error message and select OK, "F2 - Sync Motor ECU". Done.
Turn off ignition, wait 10 seconds. Turn on ignition, hold breath and press start.
Success!!
I hope this helps others who may be in the same boat.

I was honestly waiting until I could fix the USB ports on my laptop before trying to setup INPA or ISTA. Recently fixed them (reflow / resolder) but now it feels like I'm going to break something just trying to install one or the other.
