Buying a 2008 335xi coupe, Help?

So I'm planning on buying a 2008 335xi coupe in a few months and I'm starting to do my research. This is going to be my first car purchase, driving a Corolla all throughout high school and college. I'm looking for a car with manual transmission and preferably with an M-tech aero kit with the rear bumper diffuser. I've begun searching online for 335s in my expected price range of $22k-$26k and mileage range of 49k-97k miles. The one I have really zeroed in on is $22k, 97k miles. It is manual with an M-tech body kit (exactly what I was looking for with the M-tech). I have only seen it online, and not in person. I would not even realistically be able to seriously consider buying a car until Feb-Mar.(hopefully still on the market buy then) Come time to buy, I will get carfaxes on all considerations.

Does car mileage matter in the sense that horsepower or performance would be affected. Will a 335xi with 97k miles perform the same as one with 50k miles or one with <10k or will you barely be able to notice any difference. The cars I've seen are not certified which is why i think they are much more reasonably priced compared to the CPO's at BMW dealers.

As far as extended and aftermarket warranties, What are your thoughts/suggestions. I've seen commercials for maintenance plans for cars out of manufacture warranty. Are they worth it? I definitely plan on getting some sort of warranty/maintenance plan because BMW parts are pricey.
Lastly, What are expected insurance cost ranges. I'm 22 male 1 speeding ticket and 1 careless driving back in 2009, clean since then, I know there are a ton of variables, but ball park ranges will help me estimate.

I really love the 2008 coupe and plan to have this car long term and eventually give it some tuning upgrades. Thanks for the advice!

That's a pretty high mileage car you're looking at. I'd suggest finding a better deal even if the price of the car is higher. You should be able to find something with around 60k miles without spending too much more. And if you find one that is CPO it will already have a warranty to 100k so you're saving money there. You can always add the aero parts to get the look you want later on.

A higher mileage 335 will probably have slightly less horsepower than a newer one due to the carbon build-up from direct injection....unless the previous owner or dealership did a recent cleaning of the valves, but that's not likely. Either way, it's something you can do yourself or pay a shop to do.

Insurance will vary greatly depending on where you live, which company go you with, if you're getting multi-car discount or also have homeowners or renters insurance, etc. Just call around and tell them what car you're looking at and they'll give you a close estimate.

That car is way too expensive for having that kind of miles...
I've seen 2008 6mt fully loaded 335xi with 75k miles for that price.
Also, keep in consideration if you want CPO or not.
I've also seen e92 335xi 6mt for under $20k /w extremely high miles (probably 90k+)

Honestly i would never buy a used bmw with that amount of miles on it, and that is a terrible deal. If you could get it down to about 20k then it sounds more like a deal. If your got plans on spending 26k you should be able to find something with around 60k on the clock.

so do you think if i could get the one for 97k for $20k, good deal? and a tune up and cleaning will be able to bring the engine close to original performance? I'm really set on finding a 6MT, but finding them is rare, and i keep seeing alot of automatic one's for good pricing. Do you think it will be any less enjoyable driving an automatic with steptronic vs. MT

Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it.
