Vanos Solenoids. I get the 3100 and the other 29XX code. I am in need if new ones as I already pulled them out, cleaned and swapped them. My guess is this is the problem.

I am getting 30FE and 3100. Every time. Not other codes.

3100 seems to be result of 30FE. In your case because of 29XX.

I took the car to another mechanic that is specialized in German cars.
He was able to reproduce the problem easily.
Checked vacuum lines, wastegate, hoses and found that one of the (front) Pressure Controller/Boost Solenoid (aka Wategate Solenoid) was the rootcause of this problem. Replaced the part and it’s all good.
According to BMW both needs to be changed but we only changed the bad one.

I am looking at the old/bad Pressure Controller and part number is 11747548706 OEM Brand by Pierburg.
According to invoice new part number is 11747626350. I can’t tell what the brand is but it cost $210 CAD.
Same part (by Pierburg) at autopartsway.ca is $98 CAD.

Not sure which one the mechanic is installed but cost more than twice.
Total cost = part + labor + diagnostics = around $500 CAD.

Also, replacing Pressure Controller is very easy. If I knew that was the faulty part I would’ve done it by myself and it would cost around $100 CAD instead.
Here is the DIY link:

I’ll probably replace the other one by myself.

Hope this helps to others.

Did you ever fix this? Looks like mine is doing the exact same, over boosting and using too much fuel causing a sooty exhaust
