I did have the paddles already before I installed the new wheel. I'm not sure whether the proper wiring is already present on non-paddle cars. It's only a $100 option, though, so it's possible that everything but the actual paddles is already in place. The wires themselves plug into the back of the steering wheel button modules (volume, voice command, etc.).

When I post pictures of my install, I'll show where the paddle wires connect, so maybe someone with a Step and no paddles that does the install can say whether theirs looks similar.

nice, did I miss something or was there a diy for how to add the paddles? I dont think the steering wheel comes with paddles, so how did you guys/gals attached the paddles to the steering wheel? Any photo of how it looks on the paddle side?

I'd say the chance of messing up the airbag is very low. Just remember to disconnect the negative terminal on your battery and you'll be fine. This one was my second steering wheel install on an E90 and it's not very difficult. The hardest part is finding the clips to release the airbag, but even then I don't see how you'd harm your airbag unless you're jamming a screwdriver really hard into the slot.

I dont think my post is clear. His OEM steering wheel has paddles. He bought an ///M steering wheel which does not have the paddles (is what I am thinking). So that is why I was wondering how he adds the paddles to the ///M steering wheel? Could someone confirm that is what he did and if so, how did he adds the paddles?

You take the paddles off the stock wheel (they're mounted with one Torx bolt) and put them on the M wheel. Just like you reuse the airbag and cover.

there are different versions of the M Sport steering wheel. One for cars equipped with manual tranny or regular step tranny, and another M Sport steering wheel with the cut-out in the back to accommodate cars equipped with shift paddles.

so yeah, like GoBonesGo said above, the paddles are reused on the M Sport steering wheel, but you have to get the one that has the cut-out to accommodate the paddles

I apologize for the blurry pictures. I didn't realize they were so bad until I went to upload them.

The first pic is the stock setup, just for reference. In the second pic, the wheel has been removed from the steering column and I've marked where the paddles are mounted and connected. Then a pic of the paddle by itself, mounted to the new wheel, and the final product.

im thinking about doing this to my 335i w/paddles. but i have one more question. is there a consensus on which is more preferable. the perforated wheel or the smoother, and newer wheel?

if it's the later, then i would wait until they made it available for the paddled wheets.

The only version available is perforated wheel for now and it's cost $265 plus freight on Ebay.

didnt want to pop them out with even a little force without first verifying that there are NO release button of any sort.

just put a flat head under the connectors and "pop" them out?

yeah i bought one on ebay now it shows one left and my parts guy says none are showing in Germany so it will be a while before they can order me one with the paddles option so i grabbed the one online last night thx to matt's kind words and reassuring me the right one!!! thx again matt i can't wait for it to arrive..Sweden is far!!!

i did mine no problem except the holes for the paddles shifters were not there, cut outs yes holes no had them done at shop, i have had sensitivity issues with the paddles shifters now, everytime my finger gets close to them it shift real pain any experience?
