Take a look at this and let us know which system you have:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1278871872

There are three possibilities - base Stereo (no tweeters), HiFi (tweeters, no center speaker, no EQ in head unit), or Top HiFi/Logic 7/harman kardon (tweeters, two sets of rears, center speaker, EQ in head unit).

VP,

I just bought a 2011 coupe, and the only options I were given, were the "Harman Kardon" system on not. I also asked my SA if I would have front tweeters, as I did not choose the HK system. My SA told me it would have the front tweeters. So have the stereo options been changed for SY 2011 to either the Hi-Fi or the HK systems? In your PDF it states there are three options. Please advise.

The Hi Fi system doesn't sound that good if you turn it up never has from what most report.

Amps and speakers VP is the expert you are in good hands.

In 2010 they allowed he base system in the US (don't know what went on in Canada)so its somewhat confusing if you have tweeter you have HI FI or l7 . l7 has more speakers and a equalizer.

The document doesn't actually say that you have three options in any given model year.

BMW globally makes three levels of audio system - base Stereo, HiFi, and Top HiFi. I guarantee they are making all three levels at the moment - but not all three levels are available in each market each year. In 2010 and much of 2011, base Stereo and Top HiFi (Logic 7 and then harman/kardon) were the only choices, and apparently for 2012 and possibly part of 2011, base Stereo is giving way to HiFi (like in 2006-2009 US models).

So let's not worry about what the BMW dealer employee thinks - those folks have biffed a lot of this whole recent audio back-and-forth change. If you want to be certain what's in a car you haven't received yet, get the vehicle order from the dealer. It will list Stereo, or HiFi, or Top HiFi harman/kardon.

VP,

Thanks for your input. I just reviewed my purchase order, and it only lists what options I chose, and nothing about the stereo. I'll ask my SA just to be sure. If it doesn't have tweeters when I pick it up in Munich, I guess i can buy some later. To the OP, sorry for the hijack, just trying to clarifiy what packages there are.

I have the BASE Stereo (no tweeters) on my 2011 335Ci Manual Sport.
What's the best way to upgrade this sound system under the following parameters?

A. I will be doing the installation. All I need are the instructions.
B. Less than 1,000 USD plus 200 USD IF! strongly advised.
C. Where is the best place to buy?

From comments left on this and other posts as well as my personal factors I have arrived to the following setup to upgrade the "base" sound system on my 2011 335Ci Manual Sport

1. JBL MS-8
2. Individual Audio OEM Coaxial Center Speaker

If you have the base Stereo, you have no tweeter sails (those cost like $90 from the dealer) and you have no amp, and you have crappy 6" under the seat in 8" frames, and your head unit outputs a happy face curve of processed ickiness.

Your signal is discussed here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=395987

A doc defining your system is here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1278871872

For 1K installed, you are already at $910 ish after you get the tweeter sails (and you should get the sails because they are almost perfect from a tweeter angle and position POV).

You want a Technic Stereo harness ($65). So now you're at $845.

You need new front components that fit an E92 (I'm assuming your ci means E92 coupe). These are very shallow and few fit. The doors are really shallow, and speakers that fit and are in that budget are really scarce.

You need 8" underseat woofers and adapter plates for them. SWS-8 are the go-to here.

You need some way to reverse the Stereo signal processing mentioned above:

- MS-8 ($800 MSRP, so even at street price, eats up a lot of budget)
- Zapco DC amp preprogrammed for its internal DSP to reverse that signal
- Something else (CleanSweep, 360, bitone, etc)

Each has strengths and weaknesses. I don't think you will be in the price range you want, exactly.

I should have said, but you can be in the 1100-1300 range depending on gear. PM me for more info or email off our website contact page.

I had a quick question regarding adding some bass to the system. I've got the 7 system in mine, and was thinking about dropping one of those bassforms custom enclosures in it.

Does anyone know if the sound comes into the cabin pretty decently, or does one have to mess with cut-outs? The wiring looks like it would be fairly simple with the battery being in the back and the OEM amp giving me a place for the on/off relay (I've also got a device that will take amplified sound, clean it up, and convert it to RCA). Any info would be appreciated.

So what would you recommend for a 2009 335i sedan without the logic7? (I believe I have the "Hi-Fi" system according to the E9X Audio Background PDF.)

Could anyone please explain what is meant by these repetitive references to "base system having no tweeters"?

I have a 2011 335i sedan with base sound system. The system has 6 speakers. Four of them are in front: two small front speakers in triangular enclosures on the inner side of mirror mount and well as two larger speakers in each of front doors. Those small speakers behind triangular grilles is what I would usually refer to as "tweeters".

Yet people keep saying that base sound system in 2011 models has no tweeters. Moreover, the PDF document linked by 'VP Electricity' above also claims that 2011 US models have 'Stereo' as base system and that it does not have tweeters.

So, what are these small speakers in my 2011 335i then? Do they not qualify as tweeters somehow? Or something else is meant by this?

I upgraded my 2011 base system. there is this_thread on it a few months back.

i picked the Zapco amp and could not be more happy with the installation. the sound is so clean. no buzzing or hissing the music is balanced and bright at all volume ranges.

the components i picked were.
Rainbow SLC 210 upfront with CAL25 tweeter, added in BMW sails
- BMW tweeter sails part number: 51 33 7 184 198 <L & R sails are the only parts needed, they are cheap, around $60 for both together.
Rears remain stock driven off head unit (but I have HU full fade to front)
Zapco DC360.4 (90x4) amp
Jehnert XE200 under seat subs 8"
Symbilink wire and Technic's Harness
Added sound deadening to door

I have the 09 335i with idrive and just about every upgrade. Purchased 2nd hand so cannot say with 100% accuracy what system is in, but supposedly logic 7.

I live in So Cal, where's the best place to take it for an upgrade, and how much should I have to make it cleaner, deeper and a bit louder?

Looking to upgrade my HiFi System. What are my options? Bavsound.com only lists the front door mids and highs? What about the rears and a sub option?
