Screech after reving engine

My 2011 335i (N55) makes a screeching sound after I rev the throttle. It makes the sound after the engine returns to idle. I was hoping it just was a belt.

Any thoughts or have others encountered this?

Thanks

could be pullies/belt or depending on the noise the front main seal due to pad pcv valve. Could also be bearing of the AC compressor..

Here is a link to the squeak/schreech

Linked below is a video of me revving the engine and when the car returns to idle, it makes a squeaking/screeching/chirping sound. It only happens as the engine returns to idle speed, lasting a few seconds.

I took the car into the dealership to diagnose AND get this-

As I was walking past a F30 335i, it made the SAME SOUND!! The service rep caught it too.

I will let you all know what they report but please let me know your thoughts.

Oh crap, I might have...

According to similar cases I found on youtube, it could be a bad PCV valve OR a vacuum leak in the rear seal. 6 months ago I replaced a valve cover after getting smoke from the engine. Hmmm.

This guy replaced the pcv valve himself...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqoNtu7QHyw

And in the comments in this video, someone suggested a vacuum leak in the rear seal...

I should have got the 328i...

Do the PCV test, see if it is pulling air into the nipple on the top of the VC.

The verdict is in: Leak in rear seal. About $3000 at dealership.

No wonder the Germans couldn't defeat the Russians on the battlefield- all their tanks were in the shop!

Thanks for everybody's' help.

Damn and you have a 2011? How many miles.

Shouldn't be to bad of an issue if you're not losing that much oil.

Any idea how this breaks down in terms of part cost vs labor cost?

Relax, your dealer is just unfamiliar with how cars work. You just need a valve cover which is a $400 part and less than 3 hours of labor. Any shop can do it or follow the DIY here.

Thanks for the info. I read your N55 Valve Cover Thread which was very informative but this is a little out of my skill-set.

I am planning to do the oil cap test but is their any DYI instructions for a smoke test? I searched and found different cars getting tested. (stupid question- does the part need to be removed or will the smoke be drawn in with the engine running. As you can see, I am clueless.

The smoke test is to see if air is being pulled into the plastic nipple on top of the VC I mentioned above.
