The Covid boredom hit hard this weekend. The headlights on the wagon we looking a little rough and I just bought a new polisher I wanted to try out. One thing lead to another and I wet sanded and polished them out. Here are before shots showing scratching and failed UV coating.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I started my sanding them with 1000,1200,1500,2000,and 2500.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Started with some compound and a microfiber pad on my new Maxshine machine. Its a nice machine, but it does vibrate a little but it will work for me.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

For the tighter areas I broke out my air powered rotary. I need to get a small electric polisher, this thing scares the hell out of me.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

But it works and the headlights came out clear. I repeated the process with polish and foam finishing pads.

I then coated them to slow the yellowing process. The really need to be clear coated. Since I plan on either getting an m-tech bumper or getting mine fixed and resprayed I will have the body shop do it when I have that done.

Another boring update but I finally swapped out the Harbor Freight moving blanket out for a factory trunk liner.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I will have OEM all weather mats coming in the next day or so. I have to do everything I can to save the interior from the twins. Haha.

Man, you're doing way better than me, I've got a flattened FCPEuro box in my trunk right now as a "trunk liner". The funny thing is, I used to have an OEM trunk liner in my last wagon, but I didn't think I'd be back in another E91 so I left it in there when I sold it.

Where did you snag the liner from?

It's a nice liner. Recently picked up one myself. They're pretty cheap at just under $100 from the dealer

$70 on Amazon. Used ECS to find the part number and then ordered it from someone else, as usual. Haha.

On the way to work this morning I heard a little thump. I thought it was weird but I ran over a shredded the other day so I was worried something on the under tray broke. I pulled over and didnt see anything. A few miles down the road I heard a slight *ping* noise and the thump went away. I figured whatever was broken fell off and I decided I would get up on the lift this week to check it out. Then this came on the dash and it started pulling to the left.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The weird thing is that my car doesnt have TPMS so I dont know how it knew I had a flat, but I had a damn flat.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I tried to air up with my portable pump, since this car came with run flats it doesn't have a spare.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I was hoping to air it up enough to limp it to my parents house which wasnt too far from where I was stuck, but no dice. I had to call my dad to go get one of the factory wheels from my garage and a jack. Rather than getting my light low alum jack from my house he grabbed his heavy ass monster jack from his house, it was too tall. He then had to run back home to get some wood. All and all I spent about an hour and a half at this gas station with rednecks laughing about the broken Beemer. I finally got the wheel mounted up, drifty boi style.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Thankfully my dad let me take his Jeep to work and hes going to drop the wheel off at the tire shop. The sidewall took a beating but hopefully they can patch it and it will be fine, but I may need to order a new tire. It only has like 5k miles on it.

No, I was near my parents house so I called my dad and he met me at the gas station. I just got a call from the shop and the tire is shot, they have to get one on order.

That is definitely a bummer. How old are your other 3 tires? Enough of a tread depth difference to negatively change the rolling diameter?

I got them in August, so they have like 4k miles on them maybe. They should be fine.

Cars built before 3/07 came from the factory with the FTM system which uses the speed sensors at each corner to see if the tire is flat by a change in rotations. You reset it through the OBC stalk.

Yeah I did a little research on it and figured that out. Not sure what good it did, I was in the process of pulling over into the gas station because I had a flat, when it warned me that I had a flat. Haha

Got my wheel back yesterday with a fresh tire on it. I gave it a quick clean and got it ready to reinstall this afternoon.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also ordered a bumper lip for the wagon. I thought it would kinda dress up the front end and cover some scratches I have on the bottom of the bumper, but as soon as I opened the box I knew it wouldnt work. There were rough unfinished edges all across the front of the lip.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Not up to my standards, and if they wont take it back its going in the "round file cabinet" as seen in the photo. Its just a big floppy rubber squeegee. I think Im just going to get an m sport or paint my factory bumper.

Wow - that's very disappointing. I hope the lip vendor makes you whole, and good luck with your continued improvements!

I returned the lip, and they have had it for 2 weeks and still haven't refunded my money. I filed a claim with my credit card this morning.

No real update except I was going through Timehop on my phone this morning and I have had my wagon for one year today. I did a little then and now pic.

I have a few things in the works. I would like to get an exhaust soon, upgrade the speakers, and retrofit some LCI paddles. Hopefully I can get some of that done before the twins get here.

Good luck on getting projects done prior to arrival, but the upswing with the corona is there are no events that will cause you to be away from home. The EC-7's have grown on me but I do like the oem boat anchors as well.

Any news on the E9?
