'Porno' blocking

I know it's in the news at the moment, but I just changed my Ipad 3G sim and 3G laptop dongle to an orange contract which now has default adult content blocking.

But did you know even this site is classed as 'adult content' and as such is blocked completely? Infact all of bimmerpost too and loads of other general non porn sites.

So you have to call up, act like a porn freak and request the adult block be removed completely in order to go on a BMW car site FFS!

You can't have specific exceptions, either all blocked or non blocked, so what use is that to protect your kids when I have to remove the block to go on a car forum??

If they all go to default blocking, then we'll all be in the same boat.

Adult site in these circumstances does not mean porn. It means over 18 years old so could be applied to loads of different kinds of sites.

This thread might have something to do with it

You're right mark, but the 'marketing' of the blocking is about 'protecting poor kids from porn'

When it is plainly not that simple!

Sledgehammer to crack a nut?

But the whole porn thing is bull anyway.

Working for a big ISP (not consumer though) we looked at this a few years ago.

It is NOT easy to ACCIDENTALLY stumble upon a porn site!

Kids end up looking at porn because either they go looking for it or because the owner of the PC has either got it on their HDD or such sites are bookmarked or in the recent browser history!

It's a bit like trying to bad wank mags because kids keep finding them under dads bed!!!

If dad is viewing porn on the home PC then as you say, the first thing he will do is lift the block which then of course leaves the kids exposed.

But exposed to what?

Porn does not come looking for you. You have to go looking for it.

"Porn does not come looking for you. You have to go looking for it."

I like that saying.

I had the same problem 2 years ago when we were moving house. Our temporary accommodation had no internet connection so I got a T-mobile dongle and found I couldn't get onto any forums unless I called them. Made me feel like a deviant.

I like how you use the bmw forum as the excuse to turn the adult content on, you can tell us the truth ;-)

It is an age thing as it applies to all gambling sites as well.

My main complaint with it is that once the block is removed the 3G signal is too weak/slow to look at any decent porn anyway!

I dunno if porn doesn't come looking for you but it was bloody easy for my classmates to just "stumble over a mag then bring it out 'round the back after class" in the later years of my primary school!!!!!
