Apparently, the L7 center channel sounds better disconnected.

Its easy to change / remove / disconnect. Just pop the grille out with a trim tool - it just snaps up & out. Then use a stubby screwdriver to remove the screws. Easy.

before ordering another speaker, just wire any old speaker you have laying around up temporarily to make sure the noise goes away with the speaker... ie make sure it isn't in the amp

you can use a small flat blade screw driver to remove the panel, just be extra careful - maybe wrap a thin piece of fabric or even paper towel around it to help avoid scratching your dash....
best to disconnect at the speaker, otherwise you would have to either cut the wires at the harness or remove the pin(s) at the harness sub assembly |

you'll want to leave the L7 off when you have it disconnected too, though I personally didnt ever use it anyway as I wasn't a fan
note that even with the L7 off, sound still comes from the center speaker - just not near as much |

Thanks. I personally like the concert hall L7 surround sound. I'm assuming this is the feature you're referring to when you mean turn it off. I'll be disconnecting my speaker today. I'll post back and tell you guys how I like it.

Booster4075 Thanks for the pic. That's a cool screwdriver you got there. I've seen those around and might have to pick one up. frank358fr, glad you got your problem fixed.

Update. This should be an ongoing issue for all E90 owners with Logic 7. I just got my E90 4 weeks ago and it came with some crackling from the center speaker. The crackling comes and goes but is very evident when i'm using the bluetooth phone function.
After reading through quite a few posts on diy removal and fixes, i finally took the center speaker off today. The cone is 80 % close to separating from the black round rubber surround. So i pushed the cone to make the separation final. Then I squirted shoegoo into the gap between the cone and the rubber, sealing the two together. Just reinstalled the speaker and knock on wood, the crackling has dissappeared! Will try it a few days / weeks before putting back the speaker cover. It's a royal pain to remove! |

With the top down, you loose a lot of sound from the far side of the car. The middle speaker helps compensate for this and fill it out. Last edited by Fundguy1; 05-11-2016 at 07:17 AM.. |
