Its not bad for it. Its a great way to learn the handling limits of your car in a safe environment.

Of course take it to an Auto-x... It's worth getting the experience in learning how the car can handle in possibly return for new tires (If you run hard)... Nothing wrong with that IMO.

i just raced on Sunday, CCA usually auto-x's once a month here

these are from a couple of months ago, track tires are not required but recommend, i raced with the factory wheels (RFT tires) twice then decided to get a set of track wheels. However, you are required to powder coat them red ....jk

One year...2000..I did 18 autocross events...one event isnt gonna hurt anything...the time committment is kinda nasty..depending on where you are going. Have fun. I got third place in CSP in 2000 season in my Audi S4 (SCCA - Golden Gate Chapter).

I am a big proponent of auto-x. If you get the chance, by all means do it.

I did my first (and only so far) on 3/22 with the BMWCCA and I loved it, the only possible down side I could think of is it wears out your tires a lot faster than normal driving but not as much as I would have thought, I had brand new tires all around about a month before I went to the autocross and afterwards they were still fine.

I tended to do a little too much drifting because I'm immature like that and I'd also go into a turn hard and lift off the throttle to get my car to slide that way but sometimes I would accidentally trail brake into the turn and end up understeering and that did a number on my front tires, they were chunked up a little and made a lot of noise for the next two days but after two days they smoothed out from driving regularly and everything's been fine ever since.

Do it, I've done at least 6 events in the last few months on my car. It's fun and isn't really that hard on your car. My RFTs lasted 17k miles still with the autocrossing and lots of canyon carving too. I would recommend you stick to street tires as it helps you learn much quicker IMO.

its awesome - you will never beleive how well your car handles until you do this. worst thing is some wear to the tires.

When I first started at auto-x, I would go rent a Miata from some large national rent-a-car company. It was a real blast!! But I second your opinion...Rental auto-x is awesome!!!
