FYI, the labor cost to install a PS1 will be similar to installing a PS2 for a 335xi.
Most people (including me) seemed to regret choosing PS1 over PS2 in 3~6 months.

Considering the significant cost difference between a ps1 and a ps2, ps1 is a great option if not looking to make huge power. You can still have a very quick daily on the FBO ps1 with the right tune and fuel.

There is a lot of cost difference PS1 to PS2.
Not sure if your car is a manual or not. At 82k FBO RWD my clutch started slipping before I even bought the PS2. Price difference $1600 New clutch and flywheel $800-900+ Needs a custom tune $300-400+ New LPFP $300-400+ Right off you're spending $3,000 more. Then you get into tires and suspension parts. The PS1 is a great option to keep the torque high in the lower RPM range and while a proper tune would be able to maximize its potential you can run it with just a Stage 2 flash or JB4. Self install budget $2k vs $5k |

OP has xHP flash = 6AT. No clutch upgrade. Both PS1 and PS2 require a custom tune to be worth the effort put in. Both require dropping the subframe on an XI so I don't see why someone competent enough to DIY a PS1 can't do PS2. When I did mine, I had to replace all oil and water lines because they were seized. Cost about $230. Pure voids warranty on their turbo for re-using oil lines from what I've heard. It'd be a good idea to have the lines and o-rings ready and return unused. I recommend inspecting oil pan gasket and front differential seals for oil leak while in there as they also require dropping the subframe. It'd also be a good idea to replace the engine mounts and the vacuum hose from turbo to boost solenoid while in there. Plus, after the job is done, check the alignment (+$).

Couldn't see his garage/car info/mods on the bimmerpost app.
Sounds like there is a lot more works to be done with AWD. maybe try and find someone that has a PS2 locally and go for a ride? looks like its a lot of work to do twice and nit worth it. I agree with the line swap. I bought all new instead of reusing to save time. thanks for the info Supermoon |

If the PS1 had a little bit of a higher ceiling then it could have made a nice option. In my opinion it was only worth it before the PS2 was released. I too struggled with the overall cost but after I upgraded I regretted not doing it sooner. The little bit of spool you lose at the bottom is quickly forgotten and the pull to redline is addicting.
