Cleaned vanos now...

Cleaned vanos yesterday, this morning just found oil leaking from oil housing gasket. Also haven’t changed the gasket in years could it be coming from solenoids? The solenoid area is completely dry around it, but housing filter part where it’s known to leak is leaking now. Ordered new gasket for it about two weeks ago to do prevanative maintenance so will be getting it replaced once the part comes in.

Also, car will be sitting for a few days until gasket arrives, should I keep a towel under housing gasket while it sits so oil doesn’t spill on belts?

Thanks

Could be coincidence. My OFHG seemed like it went from a slow seep to a much larger seep over the course of a week, so anything is possible. If the area around the solenoids is dry, I doubt that is the cause unless oil was spilled during the process of cleaning them.

Keeping rags under the OFH should be fine to keep oil off the belt until the car is repaired. Also, using a small amount of RTV ultra black on both sides along the gasket can help the OFHG seal longer.

Should I tow it to my local mechanic when I have the parts in hand ? Is it risky to drive it to mechanic? I have CAA so don’t mind using it

If it's not pouring oil out you should be fine. A slight seep isn't bad enough to cause issues on your drive to the shop. The OFHG leaks only become a problem when people ignore them for too long, and the oil soaks the belt, which will destroy it.

Great thanks! You guys going for the new crank shaft seals out that prevent the belt from flying in?

I just assumed they went out of business since they have been out of stock seemingly since the start of their company...
