The aFe was already super loud without that as you probably know😉
So a stock 335i xdrive just with the PE will not sound as good as yours?
Love the way it sounds around 1:20

Hi Rob

I'll bet it will still sounds much more aggressive than the stock exhaust. One thing though is that sound that you like which BMW calls "burble", that actually comes even with a stock exhaust when you get the power performance kit. You can get the BMW power performance kit for about $800 online, and with it you're going to get a boost in power and torque. And you'll get that sweet burble ;-)

isn't it though! tell me that burble when shifting down to 2nd and 3rd at 2500rpm is not addictive

Yes it is!!! I purposely drive in lower RPMs and find excuses to shift all the time now.

I stop by covered parking garages all the time just to hear it. It is an addiction...

Nope, left the cats alone. You?
yeah, im running catless downpipes at well....its kinda loud at cold start. But after the engine warms up, it's perfect for me. Plus I wanted the power the DP gives.

I'm not in the best position to do much intense under-car DIY work involving cutting metal at the moment. How much would I expect for a good indy BMW shop to install this exhaust if I purchased it?

i live in a condo building with barely any lighting....i was able to do this....rent a sawzall..thats all you need....once you make the 2 cuts, which takes 5 mins a pipe, you unbolt 2 bolts and unhook the muffler off 2 hangers. its seri very easy. your most likely going to pay someone 200 bucks to do it for you when you can do it for nothing... borrow tools man.

I used ramps from Walmart and a shitty sawzal from work. I did it in 2 hours and that's with me taking my time measuring and everything.

Word. If it's that easy, then I can definitely do it myself. I'll just rent a cutter from AutoZone and do it on a Saturday mid-day to not piss off anyone from cutting. I'm just thinking of how obnoxiously difficult it was to do my front control arm bushings in the very dark and cramped parking garage of my complex on the E46.

I figure I can use the AZ manual pipe cutter to create a groove, then saw the rest of the way and clean up the edges.

I almost pulled the trigger on a PE as well. I loved the way it sounds and the fact that is not too loud when you don't want it to be is just perfect for me. Then I saw this thread
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...739970&page=52
I did it 2 weeks ago for $200 bucks and holy crap I'm glad I didn't spent the 1K on a new PE. For anyone who wants essentially the same sounding exhaust for a fraction of the cost. Just looking out for member on a budget like myself.

Thanks for this link!

I know many say it is not loud when cruising and comparable to 'Infiniti volume' and zero drone.
Can you confirm this to be the case?

Got a link for your setup, if you had created a post on this?

It really depends on the way the you do it, there are a few ways. I personally only replace the outer pockets with a straight pipe and took out all the packing to make it look exactly like the pe. Some people open up both sides and change them both to straight pipes. I have to say though it's a bit louder than a g35 or fx35. specially at wot its a very exotic sounds, just like the PE. I also did the golf tee exhaust by unplugging the plug in the trunk. so its a sound throatty sound around 2.5k rpm zero drone!

Did you do the T-golf mode?

My N55 sounded same as yours after I modified my exhaust and plugged the vacuum line that controls second exhaust flap.

So you just did the outer one and left the adjoining side the stock aka stock?
If so, this will be the route I take.

Did you do both sides or just the outer as well?

Yes I told them to leave that part alone because that's how the pe looks like. I'm very satisfied with the results. So happy in fact that my mpg has dropped below the 20s
