Cool e92 328i muffler delete and resonator?

Currently I own a 328i coupe with a muffler delete. Sounds great, though as I was driving today, another coupe identical to mine floored it past me and sounded like a bat out of hell. A quick look at the exhaust and it was also a muffler delete. I was wondering what the difference between our two cars was? Mine tends to sound muffled and droney and the other one was sharp like a race exhaust...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am assuming right now that it was a resonator delete. Would this be a good idea to install on a 328i?

Res delete will only make it marginally sharper and louder.. It will also increase drone and potentially rasp as well. Cat deletes and downpipes would likely have a bigger impact.

Also he may have been in sport mode or a low gear.. Maybe have your buddy drive your car past you sometime too, could be all in your head.

Edit: on the 335 e92 there is no res by the way.. Does the 328 e92 have one?

the 328i e92 does have a resonator. Done a bit more research and it seems like he had some sort of cat delete, headers setup. Is it worth going all the way and shelling out serious cash for some sort of exhaust like that? Or just go cheap and do a resonator delete or something?

Is it worth it? It depends on what kind of job you have, and how bad you want whatever set up. Name brand exhaust usually sound the best (obviously an opinion and not factual), but many are just as happy with whatever else they did to their exhaust for a quarter of the cost.

As far as power goes there's not a lot to be had other than cutting out cats and adding dp's. Also, if you're NA you kinda need some backpressure as well, from my understanding.

Seems like a moderate exhaust and resonators in place of cats is the most common 335 custom exhaust approach. People prefer brands like MagnaFlow, vibrant, and borla for this type of job.
