Any reason why Installing or switching Maps on my Cobb V3 causes me to have to re-flash the Alpina?

If I don't reflash it, the car will NOT start off in any gear less than 3rd. Even if I move it to manual and bump it down to M1, it's still 3rd gear....

Talked to Cobb on the phone about it, and their device doesn't alter or connect to transmission computer.... Well, it DOES something to it.

Yeah, I figured that out after having no choice but to drive the car after flashing the Cobb.

Subsequently, I've also figured out that you can shut the ignition off and lock the doors for 15min after flashing the Cobb, and it will not do the 3rd gear thing.

On a side note, does anyone know if you can Erase the UIF Write data using WinKFP?

Before I figured out the 3rd gear thing, I had re-flashed the Alpina program 4 or 5 different times. I think it says I'm down to like 58 re-flashes left...

I have a buddy who had the Alpina tranny flash and his paddles didn't work. I went thru the steps to fix the paddles but I get and error.

(I updated my E89 files to the latest 53.3. Do you think that was my issue?)

Here's the error log:

Well I updated my files using the BMW coding tool after those errors. So now I have to try to fix the paddles. When I update using the BMW coding tool, I update the SP-daten and the WinKFP, correct?

Thanks!!

This thread inspired me to order a cable and get set up for coding. I was able to flash the Alpina program on the first try, still need to get myself more familiar with NCSExpert, I got a VIN error when a loaded it up while trying to fix the paddles so I just called it a night. Went in and updated the daten files to 53.. I thought I was already at 49.x but either it didn't like the version or I was doing something wrong. Not too worried about it, going to try again tonight.

Really impressed with the WOT shifts. I feel like it will substantially improve the transmission's longevity.

^ That was easy.. gave it another try when I got home from work, I think all I did differently was hit f1 twice, and it prompted to type my VIN. After that I followed the directions from the first post and the paddles work again.

Will this work for a 2007 335d UK?

Can anyone do remote coding for it, I have all software and cable, I don't trust myself.

Thanks

I'm fairly certain that since you have a D, it won't work.

Good thread but a couple things I want to point out that I had issues with. Not complaining by any means just a couple things I had trouble with that were not clear so I had to figure out on my own.

- The condensed SP-DATEN files linked in the post did not include the files I needed to reprogram my paddles, I had to download 15gb and pull E89 folder.

- I also had issues with NCS expert, make sure you are using a English text file, German is not fun. Also make sure you download and add expert profiles.

- I had issues related to not having the MAN file cleared out, open it up with notepad and delete everything then save it.

-I also had issues because I didnt run the LADEN script in the DATEN folder

Thanks for clearing this up. I'm going to attempt to flash this either tomorrow or Monday. My first flash on my e90!

Question I don't see the winKFP link anywhere in the OP? Upon searching I found http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=451145 method, will this work? Thanks!

I tried to flash today, followed the pdf instructions and started going through the instructions in OP. After I select GKE215 I get this error pop up:

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

Edit: just reread the op, seems like I didn't change the settings like the picture. I'll give this a try tonight.

Any of you guys try the "new" Alpina flash? It's supposed to have a better D mode (higher shift points) and keep the improved S and M modes. It's ID is 7603537.

There is good discussion about it on N54tech in the last few pages of this thread.

I'm still getting errors. I'm running windows 7 and '11 335i using the $100 cable in OP. after choosing GKE215 I get this after two tries. The first try is what happens on the previous page. Any ideas?
