Angry My First Scrape :( Advice please.

Hi guys,

Had a slight run in with a gutter today, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they know how to remove a scrape on my rim? I have some photo's attached. Judging by the photos, has anyone got a polish or other product to recommend for removing the scrape? or would it be wise to just organize something through the dealer? I'm sure they know someone that will take it out for a premium .

take it to a tyre shop first to see if they can do it. i know that the jax near me does rim repairs and i was looking at around 70 for my black rim. Probably a bit less for regular rims, plus your damage is that big.

So today I take the car up to a specialist alloy wheel repair shop that has been recommended by my dealer. Full props to the dealer for not trying to run the show and take a slice. However I get up to the repair shop and I'm told that it's not a small job, my wheel needs to be entirely re painted and will be off the car for 4 days.... I can get a wheel to use for 4 days from the dealer for no charge but this seems a little extreme to me.. plus he quoted $300... I'm thinking he may have seen $$$ when I drove in.. what do you all think?

Hi Burto, I think he saw the dollar signs like you said. I think you can insist they do a 'touch up' job and they don't need to paint the whole wheel. BMW wheel paint isn't a rare commodity, so matching the colour shouldn't be an issue. They will no doubt argue that a touch up job using metallic paint will never be perfect, which is true, but you probably wouldn't pick it except under close inspection under good light. I don't think it should cost more than $150 including the "BMW driver" premium fee. It would be under $100 if you drove a Holden, Lol.

It will take time, so I think you will proabably pay more if you want an expediated job.

Thanks John,

I'm happy with a touch up job because where the damage is located isn't very obvious. I might just ask around some more and see if someone can do a touch up. Maybe I should take the wheel in, in my partner's i30 might get a discount!

$300 is far too excessive. Just keep shopping around and I'm sure you will come across someone who will do it for around $100. Like I said, I was quoted $70 for a good quick repair, and this was from a shop that BMW uses.

I have been reading the 1Addicit forum too and I believe I read somewhere that there is a good place in Richmond to fix it.

I remember they do top quality job at $150 or something.

Check the 1 Addict site.

I had the same problem, scraped a wheel and the 2 fronts have brake dust embedded in them, contacted the dealership and they said it would cost $300 per wheel to repair here in Sydney, I have stopped worrying about it

One thing I have learned is not expect the best prices from the $tealership.

I went to my local panel shop and they repaired and repainted 4 rims for $240.00 and did a perfect job.

take the wheel off, pop out the centre cap and drive it down (in another car obviously) to your local panel shop.. I've never had a BMW wheel fixed, but many others and have never paid more than $100/wheel including re-surfacing the lip and a respray
