Last days of snow in LA

Because of the coronavirus and school is canceled to online classes I decided to take the e90 up highway 2 to see SnoW. Michelin Pilot sport As3+ performed so well from 65 F to 37F! There was no one out on those roads except a subaru wrx. Even constantly pushing lateral Gs these tires didnt make a single noise. After autox last weekend I needed my speed fix.

197s bought it off a e92 owner 3 years ago because I loved the design. It is made by BBS and is stamped in each of the wheels. Best 18 inch design in my opinion.

Only in LA do people 'drive to see the snow' and then physically put snow on their car to drive back down the mountain and showoff

Anywhere else in the country people are trying to remove the snow from the car and keep it off!

Yeah, you can surf in the morning then snowboard at night, if you don't mind traffic. The mountains of LA get a decent amount of snow in the winter at higher elevations. It doesn't stick around too long, but there's definitely snow.

We have nearly the exact same tire/wheel setup. Style 197 wheels and Michelin AS/3+. Although my tires are 10mm wider than OEM, and my wheels are painted.

Here is one of my snow pictures from this year:

Well where I was we were getting about 7 inches/night. So not the best. When the snow was just picking up and it was light, probably the same amount in OP's picture, they performed pretty well. The rears are brand new. Obviously they aren't suited for proper snow use. When I had to make an emergency run to Vons before the snow storm snowed us in, the snow turned a normally 10 minute drive into a 45 minute drive. Roads were empty, 10pm, and I was sliding around snow drifts like nobody's business. Good for light snow, nothing more than 4 inches of snow I would say.

Regardless, Michelin's new AS4 is out as of a few months ago, and they discontinued manufacturing all variants of the AS3. Almost all the tire retailers are emptying their AS3 inventories, so you can get pretty good deals on certain sizes. I picked up the rears for like 50% off, no employee/friends & family discount or anything too.

(I purchased from my previous employer's main competitor, shhhh!)

Honestly, the main benefit I see from running Michelin Sport A/S3+ tires on my daily drivers is the fact that you get about 80% of the performance of the PS4S, with significantly more tread depth and wear rating. And they are a bit cheaper. They are great year-round daily driver tires, especially somewhere like Southern California. Along with the added wet/off-road surface traction, of course. But honestly the PS4S wet traction is so good and getting better, there is no reason to choose the Sport A/S3+ over the PS4S for purely wet/rain purposes. Seriously.

Michelin or Bust

Yes this is my second set of this AS3+ and my experience with it is majority dry weather and hot. I have been in the rain in them and they brake traction with my 330i. I wonder if this set will get me to the snow mountain with almost treadbar. Thats so cool snow storm! I am OP

If it's within 2/32in of the treadbar, or even 4/32in, you won't make it very far in the snow.
