Reverse camera retrofit clarification

I have a 2009 e92 with 6MT, CIC and no PDC. Are the only reverse camera retrofits that work for my car are from bimmer retrofit or bimmer-tech if I don't install PDC? Thanks for the help everyone.

You can't do the cheap emulator discussed in this forum. Your two options are:

1. An emulator that also emulates PDC (the carsystems emulator)
2. Using a multimedia interface (MMI). You can purchase the bimmertech kit or equivalent, or cobble one together yourself.

I went with an MMI. I originally bought a kit for the CCC, which was not cheap at all. When I did a CIC retrofit, I did it myself without a kit. The kit is much nicer but there was no way I could afford to buy another kit. (DIY)

No, use the emulator in the very first post of the $130 DIY Backup cam thread.

I installed this into my parents 2010 335d with NO PDC and it worked fine.

Did that 335d have AT or MT? As I understand it, 6MT cars must have PDC to use the cheap emulator, whereas AT cars can use the emulator regardless. I could definitely be wrong though as I have personally not tried it, this is based on reading the thread (but I did read the entire monster thread).

BUT I was trolling eBay after reading that PDC thread, and a used PDC module is $50... it might be cheaper to retrofit PDC (just the module, not the sensors). There's only 4 connections - 12v, ground, CAN high and CAN low. If you're not hooking up sensors, you can stuff it behind the glovebox.

AT in the 335d. I'm wondering if there's additional wiring for the MT cars without PDC? Quite possible.

I have no idea where the signal comes from, but I don’t think PDC has extra wires. The more expensive car systems emulator doesn’t have extra wiring but can emulate PDC in a car with MT and no PDC...
