Was able to drive without key in car for 20km

OMG I started the car ,( i have comfort access) forgot something inside the house, came back to my car and drove about 15 miles.Stopped at the bank, tried to lock the car but it didnt lock up!!! ,open the door trying to find my keys for at least 5 mins. search everywhere around my car in the parking lot asking myself" WTF" !!!!! called my buddies and asked them to go to my house and get my keys! Both keys were inside the house! They brought it back to me but for no reason, when i got back in the car and started it! I lost all setting in the car.
Did something similar ever happened to you here?

Once the car is started you can drive it till you shut it down. As for the settings, are you sure you have the settings saved on both keys?

+1

I've driven without the keys (albeit intentionally), but I've never had the car clear my settings as a result. Give the other key a shot and let us know.

It is disconcerting , isn't it? To know that you can drive 500+ miles, stop to fill up, then realize you left your keys on the counter? :-). It certainly makes you perfect the pre-departure-pocket-patdown.

Was the car not chiming and showing the "remote missing" warning? If I start my car and get more than 3' away it starts going off. It should be on both the idrive and the display between the gauges both along with an audible chime.

Also true, when I jump out of my car to collect the mail I can hear it dinging almost immediatly when I depart the car.

That's weird. I've had 4 BMW's with CA now and every one of them has done this. I wonder if it's a US thing or if someone would have coded the warning out for some reason. I don't see why but, stranger things have happened.
