Hi,

have the Conti 5P now mounted for around 4000km, excellent tire.

Very comfortable, good grip and stability in every condition. Hope i can made over 20.000km on the rears till they reached the TWI (3mm).

Can someone say anything to the treadwear? How much tread in mm did your Conti 5Ps had with 0km? I dont measure mines exactly

Think they had around 7-8mm. The front tires have an treadwear index of 280, the rears 240.

Actually i have around 7mm at the front and around 6mm at the rears ().

Have now covered just under 8000 miles on the 5Ps and can only report good things. Grip has not deteriorated from the high standards I've already reported. Noise and harshness in my opinion are quite low - however, the roads I drive on are either the crap Central London roads on which I can't tell if the tyres are harsh or not, or on the beautiful smooth Continental motorways, on which even runflats sound quiet and smooth!

Wear - just done a quick wear measurement. 8000 miles, laps of the 'Ring, mix of city and motorway driving - 6.5mm front, 6mm rear tread remaining. I think that's excellent.

Still my preferred tyre of choice for street driving.

Crumbs, theres no perfect answer to that one.

Experimentation is the key, we all like a different feeling from the car and somewhere inbetween technically too soft and technically too hard is the only advice I can give you!

well i am using what bmw dealer set to me they looked into my doors panel and set that presure, i used before 18 inch wheels with michelin ps2 tyres

Well, I'd say "yes". i have Conti 5P's on 19 inch 230's and have settled on 35 psi front 37 psi rear (= 2.4 and 2.55 bar).

I find it gives the best compromise, but this is after 500 miles, not 5000 or whatever like Tony (above).

I didn't find them a night and day improvement over Bridgestone RFT's however. A little better, yes, but not what some were reporting.

Interestingly, I'm taking my car to Birds soon and they approve the Conti 5P's, which says something I suppose.

Never home to drive the bloody thing, let alone photgraph it!
Had a great day at Combe with it - the Falkens are great on track

I run 2.5/2.7 on my non RFTS - works well.

tyre pressures

I have 19" on my car. The car was new in december 2009 just when all the fuss about the alloy rims was at its height. Thanks to this forum I was able to get 269 performance alloys in stead of the 225m's.

The pressure for the tyres as per the plaque on the door sill is 3.3 and 2.8 Bar.

That is what I run for both the orginal RFT and also the new conti 5's. Seems much higher than anyone else here, but that is what it says on the door plate.

I like the conti's. Especially after some 3000 miles. Less road noise, gentler ride, still very sharp. But there is still a place for the RFT which is why there is divided opinion. They are different but both are good, it is more about what you prefer and I prefer the not to drive on bullet hard tyres for every day driving.
