I've had a stock 135i customer need a new bank 2 turbo because the WG shaft was severely worn and would bind open. No boost from the bank 2 turbo, limp mode, 30FF code, tested and found the WG shaft worn so badly that the WGA couldn't pull the WG shut. That was a stock vehicle out of warranty. Poor guy just bought the car a couple months prior, too.

yes unfortunately that is the best approach.

I wonder if my SA (who I have picked out of many SA's to be the coolest of them all) would approve for my WG or hopefully even turbos to be replaced.

I just put these DP's in myself about a week ago, and really would rather not have to swap back to stock as swapping DP's is a complete and utter pain in the ass.
sounds like we have the same SA, Nick Lal! He is awesome.

One thing to note is that there is still a subjective clause to replacement. They have to be making an "unacceptable" level of noise. This is really a judgement call. Hook your tech up with a case of beer or something if you want to sway things in your favor.. haha. Mine sounded like a pissed off rattlesnake even when completely warm during decel and idle.

I know right? Yeah I put on some Nitto Invos on last year. I think I need to replace the fronts soon.

Believe it. Same happened here, both snails were replaced without question or hesitation from the dealer. Understand, BMW North America pays the bill on Recalls/Warranty work, so the dealer has every incentive to do the job and get $$$ from BMW NA. It's win/win for you and the dealer.

The wastegate levers, arms, bushing etc, are all part of the issue, and part of the turbo housing itself. So, it all gets replace under the recall if it is out of tolerance.

I'm at 92k miles and currently trying to get my service contract to replace my turbos because of this. Are people having just the wastegates replaced? I spoke with three different BMW dealerships and no one can get just the wastegates, only the entire turbocharger assembly.

You can only get the wastegate vacuum actuators separately. The mechanical wategate components aren't available by themselves through BMW.

SOME wastegate noise is normal. If you look at how the system works, it's going to make some mechanical noise during operation. According to BMW, what you're hearing at ~3000 rpm is the wastegate valve/door rotating in it's seat and that it's a normal function of the design.

Does this mean that it doesn't come with the actuator rod and/or flapper?

In france bmw don ´ t replace only wastegate actuator.
I ve ordered 2 wastegate actuator but impossible in france to change them and calibrate it. And as it necessary to remove turbo they prefer change directly turbo.
So i ve got a game of wastegate actuator new in my house, never used.
Now in france it is not possible to order part number wastegate separatly
