N54 new turbos fitted now steering is making creaking noise

I had my turbos replace a couple of weeks ago & since getting the car back the steering now makes a creaking noise which it didn't make before.
Cars going back to the shop tomorrow but was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts on what may have not gone back together properly.
Sub frame was dropped to change the tubs, any insight would be appreciated.

Having just had a quick poke around under the bonnet it appears that if I hold the steering coloum & give it a tug there is some back & forth movement which I now suspect coud be the problem. Anyone got any thoughts on what may not have been done up properly?

My steering rack creaks if it's not torqued down enough. Crank the two rack bolts, and give it a whirl around the block.

Sounds like the steering rack wasn't reinstalled properly, mine did the same thing when I had to move my car over a garage bay and only hand tightened the steering rack. Shop should have it straightened out very quickly.

Thanks for the replies. Am pleased that it's something simple but a little miffed that the shop didn't tighten it down correctly, especially so as I have been enjoying how much quicker the 35i is now & have on occasion driven it as though my hair was on fire. No harm, no foul I suppose

Steering rack is 41# plus 90 degrees. I think there is a limit as to how many times you can use those two bolts.

If it's not that, then you might have to re-torque the three control arms at the hub & subframe. (Well, two plus the tie rods

Car was in the shop today, they said "the bolts just needed nipping up" all is good now.

I have kinda same thing. Was it cracking only turning to one side or both? And did the sound come from what direction?

recently replaced my O2 sensor and have been getting a creak from the steering, I've had a suspicion it was the rack bolt.

Glad you confirmed, will sort mine this weekend!

It was both directions.
It could also be you front top mounts

Yep. 100% steering rack bolts not tightened hard enough, had the same problem
