VOICE commands now work 1000% better. I finally feel like taking the time to memorize the shortcuts.

iDrive is no longer SLOW and Sticky. The wheel now works just like cars produced after March 07. It doesn't make the same clicking noise, but you no longer have the HOLD the knob to the left or the right to keep moving up/down the list.

When you return to the car, the CD Player actually remembers the exact point of the song as when you shut the car off.

My PDC screen no longer takes 10 seconds to disappear after gear is no longer in reverse.

POI search is Fantastic....DO NOT bring this up to your Service Advisor...It is a new feature, so they are going to think this is the only reason you want the update....BUT IT IS GREAT!!!!!!!

BONUS features....Previous to having this update, my car had a slight "hiccup" at idle that appeared every 10 or 15 seconds...Idle is now smooth as silk....Like others, it does appear that throttle response is slightly better...
FWIW, all of these fixes/improvements were in v25

I have to bring my car in for a 60.000 km service. I will address some points to them...like the arrow not showing in the right field and the overall slow response.
I am now on progman 24 I think and i also noticed the fact that when I add a new address to my addressbook and I give it a name it will take a serieus amount of time before the system gets responsive back. I'll report that too.

Hopefully they will upgrade it for me.

I took my car in today for the "free" oil change and complained of slowness with the idrive, i.e. the navigation and with my bluetooth. They said the system reported no problems except with the bluetooth (only one problem) which they cleared. Basically they said they won't do the upgrade for me unless the system reports a problem. Any ideas how I can accomplish this? help?

Wassup Badbaz!!!
It was me that you saw at Bob Smith, the one with the failed HPFP for the E92 TiAg 335i.

That sucks that they denied the progman update. The reason why they won't just do it is that since it is warranty work, they charge BMW for it, and therefore, BMW needs to approve the work.

You need to let them know that the iDrive freezes or something like that, but that it is intermittent. The next time you go in, let them know that you reported the problem before and that you demand an update this time around, that even though it is difficult to reproduce, it STILL happens.

Same stuff happening with me. Took my car in to get a "service engine soon" light corrected (bad O2 sensor by the way) and complained about slow iPOD scrolling, etc. They said that I had the latest Progman, which means they are either lying or ignorant. I have a June build which means I likely have 26.02.00. I asked to have them put on 27.02.02 but they gave me the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" line. I told them (sternly, but politely) that I felt that the iPOD interface doesn't work as far as I'm concerned and I should get the new features. They still won't do it. This is at Sterling BMW in Newport Beach CA by the way. Should I try another dealer?

My dealer told me that folks should have no issue getting the updated sw installed if they complain of the several intermittent issues that we have all been having.

I had the update done last week and it literally fixed every little intermittent and crazy issue I have had for the past 6 months.

I had complained about iPod charging and switching; poor voice command response; intermittent comfort access operation and several others..... ALL FIXED with new software last week -- no hassles --- no charges ......

I would really fight for it. Make sure you complain when the shop has a LOT of customers or potential NEW customers there...... works gret every time !!!!

Spoke to BMW today where my car is for minor warranty work and they told me that the latest version is version 28? They are arabs so it may be a misunderstanding.

It is possible that a v28 is being/will be released. BMW stated in a SIB to dealers that there are up to 4 Progman updates each year. So far we have seen v25, v26 and v27 (The web downloads do not count as a new update....
example v27.00.00 would be the third of 2007)
Any additions such as v27.01.02 and so on are the web updates.
So, v28 would be the 4th if it is being released...

Someone correct me if I am wrong....

My dealership told me 28.00.00 is indeed the latest. There doesn't seem to be any info on what bug fixes it may have.

By the way, I contacted BMW NA and they were not able to help me in getting my dealer to update the software to 27.02.02, or 28.00.00 for that matter.

Their main argument is that if they attempt to do a Progman update, then it is possible that one of the modules in the car could fail and that if they had to replace it, then it would be $1200 of work and warranty wouldn't cover it, yada yada yada.

Couple of things: v28 does have a Target Data Status number assigned - E89x-07-12-515 for E90 series models, but the SIB has not been posted yet. BTW, it is the only vehicle (X, 5, 6, or 7 series have no changes) that does get something in v28.00.00. Also, there is no v27.02.02. The last actual release was 27.02.01. Many dealers use the "ADMIN" screen on the hardware device (SSSR) that is used to run PROGMAN updates and that truncates the CIP (PROGMAN) number and deletes leading "0"s. v27.02.01 looks to them like 27.2.1. As soon as I see SIB with v28 info I will post (I look twice a day).

I stand corrected on the v28.00.00, the chart that lists all the versions showed this as "No new vehicle data", which I misinterpreted as no new noticeable changes, but actually means that there was no information available at the time.

Is the info on this site incorrect about 27.02.02? There really is no 27.02.02?

I have two independant official BMW sourced documents that agree with each other that there is no 27.02.02. The CIP progression is 27.02.01 to 28.00.00.

As an aside: those 3 series owners who upgraded to 27.01.01, 27.02.00 or 27.02.01 all have the same software. They are all at the same Target Data Status of E89x-07-09-521, which is the only true measure of what software resides in a particular vehicle. CIP is mearly the distribution level that covers all BMW MOST bus equipped vehicles. Any whose dealer told them they had 27.02.02 most likely got one of the afore mentioned upgrades

I haven't felt any reduced power issues with the 27.02.0x update, whichevery "x" I have.

Maybe people feel that there is reduced power because the jerkiness from stop to acceleration is gone.

I just got my car back today with the Progman update. The invoice says "Performed SIB 65 03 07 for vehicle with latest software 27.1". What is this '27.1'? Isn't the latest 27.02.02 or 28.00.00?

They said this is the absolute newest version on their system, there's no 28.00.00 that they are aware of. Did I get stuck with an outdated Progman?

Also, having the CIP_Releases_e90 printout on hand to show my Service advisor made things helluva lot easier. Didn't even have to try to reproduce the problem, he just took a quick look at the sheet, signed the order form and I was on my way.. I was expecting the worst of course, but guess it paid off to go in with some ammo.

I had 27.1.1... which might be what you had. I just got the newer one, which I stand corrected to be 27.2.1.

It seems like some dealerships will work with you to justify the software update. But it's weird... Badbaz was ahead of me, but had a different CA. He wasn't able to get a software update even though he reported some issues. I on the other hand have gone in twice and have told them of some intermittent stuff going on. Both times, my software was updated.

I just got the latest upgrade also, and I just noticed that the 'maintenance' screen is no longer there. I'm talking about the screen that tells you your oil level and how long till the next service (brakes, oil, etc).. Anyone else have this issue?

What's the best way to go about finding out which version I have? I picked up my car end of November 2007, should I assume that it has the latest version?

You can't tell. Since the new progman update came recently, I don't think you have the new one.
