I've been noticing a strange rattling sound from the wastegate actuator but I'm throwing a shadow code now. Have you checked the fluid levels? That's usually the first sign of trouble.

I've been noticing a strange rattling sound from the iDrive 8.5 system and it completely bricked the module. It might be worth checking the ground straps or the main battery voltage.
