if he did it properly, he wouldnt be laying their stumped, because 200 degree oil burns like a bitch, he would likely be yelling and screaming for his life

Lucky for me I was able to barely reach enough with a wrench to untwist the plug so I was laying just under the front lip of the car. Didn't get any on me, but a little sprayed into the inner side of wheel.

Hi Guys, first post here, so go easy on me please. Bought a 2011 335is w 6000 miles and decided to change oil for good measure. Same thing happened to me - oil SPRAYED out the drain hole. Never seen anything like it and changed my own oil my whole life...

I do have comfort access and wondering if that could have been issue. Seems that crankcase would have to be under pressure for this to happen. Does that mean my PCV is shot? at 6K miles? Also, I see reference to oil pump pressure here, but not sure how that would pressurize the sump.

Anyone with insight on how to prevent this and/or what is causing it greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you guys follow the procedure that says to open the oil
filler cap and loosen the oil filter before taking out the drain
plug.

There is positive pressure inside the engine.

Although I though is was suppose to be a vacuum.

There has to be a dozen diy's on the e90 alone on this and they all
say to open the oil fill and open the filter up to the point where the seal
is broken.

Also just a general procedure on any car oil change is to open the oil filler
cap before the drain plug.

I do follow that procedure. I loosened up the oil filter housing and opened the fill cap. Oil still SPRAYED out. How to explain?

+1, opening the filler cap will release any pressure at crank case without oil spray.
Not familiar with the turbo N54/55 crank case ventilation, it is more complicated than N52's with the turbo providing high intake pressure when it is spooling. Can't say this is expected or something is wrong with PCV.

With the fill cap open, it is literally impossible for the crankcase pressure (= oil pan pressure) to vary from atmospheric pressure. Without seeing a video of the "spray" you experienced, I personally can offer nothing but skepticism.

Yeah if you are going in from the side to replace or release the drain
you have to stick your head a little way under the car to see the drain
plug. Much easier than fishing for it by feel.
