If they can fit LS engines into a miata they can get it into our engine bay. Its the wiring and retaining all the stock functions that would be the hard part. relocating different systems and fabricating mounts and such.

except replacement parts for an LS engine are dime a dozen and can be bought at local parts stores. Plus the modability is insane. M3 = Mo Money Mo Problems. It is my dream to have a 357i. One day.....

My valve cover gasket is black. And it's leaking.

I suspect that that orange gasket is after market.

Very early N52B30 motors came with a metal valve cover and a metal crush gasket as shown in the photo.

I have the same gasket on my 330xi with a B30 variant

Good to know.

Are they less prone to leaking than the newer valve covers of the plastic persuasions?

Well, they don't crack like the plastic ones.. So I'd say yes.

hassmaschine, are those VC's a direct replacement for the N52k? Love the coil securing plates, great idea.

When my plastic ones goes it would be great to replace it with a metal one and coat it with a thermal dispersant.

Yes but you would also have to retrofit the oil seperator, its built into the vc on the n52k. You also have to use the earlier gasket and aluminum bolts, since the cover is magnesium.

Fwiw, I just had my gasket done by BMW and they used a gasket that looks just like the one in the photo. My car is an 06. I'd say it's OEM or at least hard to distinguish from OEM. The gasket that was on before was installed just over a year ago before I bought the car (presumably by a shop that didn't know what they were doing). It looked rather different.

For those interested in seeing a test comparing short and long intake runners:

In this example, a 406hp V8 gained 50hp changing from short to long intake runners. The gain in hp came at the expense of (a little) low-end tq.

I'm not concluding that this test is all about runner length, because there are other variables like: 2x carbs, different flow path into the cylinder head, and probably others as well.
