hi, my Australian spec 09 335i sedan doesn't seem to have a wire to disconnect. I can see the actuator plug in, like in the photos, but there's no cable plugged in, and I can't see the cable anywhere...

Also, is the valve meant to be open when the car is shutdown? Does it close when it's idling?

thank you

okay. so I found the unplugged cable tucked away. It was very difficult to plug it back in. I think I managed eventually.

Doesn't seem to have made any difference to the sound. I expected that it would be quieter after I reconnected the harness.

Also....the valve in the exhaust pipe still seems to be open at idle. I thought it would be closed, and then open up at high rpm?

could someone please confirm?

thanks

Guess yours is already disabled or broken then, maybe a past owner did the gold tee mod.
Mine is closed at idle. Can clearly see in the reverse cam that only one exhaust is letting out smoke when I back out the driveway in the morning.

This has been asked a dozen times in this thread without a satisfactory answer. Does anyone with an E93 know where the actuator is? One poster suggested it was behind the tail light assembly door (light gray plastic thing on the top left in the pic below) and to dig deep, but everything I see in there is for the tail light.

Is there an actual name for this mod or a video?

I purchased a car with an AFE exhaust. I'm assuming I would not benefit at all from doing this mod?

I finally just did this golf tee mod to my 2011 N55 335i this morning. But instead of using a actual golf tee, I decided to go with a tubing shut off type clamp. Can get it from ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221396224167...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

this way if I don't like it, I can just unclip anytime I want and put it back to stock and if I decide I want the sound back, just press the clip all the way as far as it can clip and I'll have the sound back. It is easy to pull the vacuum line out and to install this shut off clamp. I'll have to try to zip tie it up higher so that it can't be easily seen while looking from the rear of the car. I've only driven with it on for 35 miles on my way to work and haven't gotten any errors or cel yet but I'll have to see what happens as I drive it more. Overall, I like it. I didn't notice any louder sounds when I started the engine this morning at a cold start. And revving in the garage actually was not any louder than before either. But until I was at about 2500-3000 rpm, I can notice the sound was louder than before without the mod. It definitely sounds pretty good while in the car but I really don't think people can hear it while I'm driving or anything like that. I think if you just want a subtle increased sound while you are driving, this is a cool mod to do. But if you are hoping for a much louder sounding exhaust that people can hear it while you are driving by, then you probably need to install an actual exhaust or do the BMW PE Mod to modify your existing mufflers. Oh, and I am not getting any drone on the highway so far either, as what others have mentioned.

Time consuming

The part that takes the longest is reading through the 30 pages. Damn that took a while. I should have just read the first comment and done it.

Awesome, Thanks OP.

This is how the car should always sound like!

This valve defeats the purpose of having a dual exhaust if the left side is closed at low rpm.

Love the full sound of the exhaust now. Nice Deep growl and pops at low rpm.

Yes, I can confirm that's where the connector is on the E93. I had to remove the rubber panel that covers the light assembly as well as the trim piece on the side.

Plugged my wires back in cus I was tired of seeing the fume flap code, mind you, I only pulled it because jb4 use to have a glitch where the exhaust flap closed and later opened up even with the setting open setting on.

Will this work on a 2013 335i convertible?

I looked in the same spot on my car and could not see a connector that looked like that one ? Could it be in a slightly different place?

The first mod I did to my newly acquired 335 and perhaps the most gratifying.
