Sorry, still confused.

When do you get the error msg - when you select E90, when you select functional jobs or both?

Are you saying that if you click OK on the COAPI error msg, you are returned to an INPA menu screen and are able to select and execute any INPA function?

Am I correct in assuming that the 2007 has a JB4 but the 2009 does not? When you say JB4 is off, you mean you set it on Map 0?

Both the 07 and 09 have JB4s (G5 ISO) and both are set to map 0 before starting anything.

When I click Okay it just says on the same screen I was at. Doesn't return to the start but doesn't go any further. The Coapi error is after you press F3 in the steps for NCSexpert (when you press it, click E89 chassis and its supossed to read the VIN and connect to the car)

Sorry still confused - perhaps I'm just not reading carefully

Are you saying that that INPA works fine, no error messages and that error messages are only associated with NCSExpert?

There are two additional levels of selection after starting NCSexpert, loading a profile, pressing F1 (start or VIN/ZCS/FA) then F3 (chassis selection or ZCS/FA from ECU). Are you saying that the error message appears after selecting F3 or after selecting "E89" or after selecting "CAS"? If the latter, have you tried selecting "NFRM"?

Let's see the error log: after you get the error in NCS, click ok, then select 'view' on the top menu and click on ERROR.LOG

EDIT:
Generally good thing to do is clear the contents of the MAN file (FSW_PSW.MAN).
What versions of NCSExpert and EDIABAS are you running? From a BMW Standard tools 2.12 installation? What NCSExpert profile are you loading?

INPA loads up and shows battery ON and Ignition ON. No errors with INPA.

In NCS expert the error happens in the connection process after selecting CAS. Will double check FRM and NFRM lead to the same result. I will also do the error log right after.

Will clearing the MAN file before as well.

Versions are INPA V5.0.6, NCSexpert V4.0.0 and Ediabad V7.3.0.

It's a communication problem with ncs expert. I'd try loading nfrm instead of CAS and see if that does anything. If not, try disconnecting the jb4 red power wire. I've had 2 instances where turning jb4 to map 0 still didn't allow me to fully communicate with car and I had to disconnect the red power wire. This could be one of those instances. Could also be a faulty ncs expert download, positive com port is set to 1 and latency set to 1?

OP: Disconnecting the JB4 is a good idea, worth a try. Others have seen similar, somewhat inexplicable things with JB4.

socalcoding: His installation works on another E90 so the problem is vehicle specific.

We tried again. CAS, FRM and NFRM all 3 (with and without) the adapter had the same result.

Interesting idea about the JB4. You mean just the main red power wire. Take the JB4 splice out, plug right into the car and leave the rest of the JB4 hooked up?

Yep exact same thing happened. The big red power wire was removed and stock was put back in its place.

Though i could still access the jb4 thru steering wheel controls

Disconnect the red wire and don't plug anything back in, just don't start your car. You'll be able to turn ignition on correctly but jb4 won't be connected at all

Tried with all 3 options( stock orange wire connected, red wire in connector but the splice not connected to orange and none connected at all).

Again the same message as the rest

I'll admit I am completely stumped! Even though your installation worked on your other vehicle, about the only thing I can think of at this point would be to wipe your installation completely and reinstall. If you have a friend or family member with another laptop, it might be worth trying with that. Those suggestions are not completely rational but I just cannot think of anything else.

Reminder: post the error log

This is our car laptop (I also use it to tune the standalone on our track cars) but I can try a personal laptop).

As well We have already deleted and re-downloaded it previously as we got the same error.

Ill keep trying stuff and posting the logs. Thanks for all your help so far!

Are you certain that the on-board OBD II connection doesn't have a misaligned pin inside?

Also, if you haven't done so already, try a different USB port on your laptop.

You mean the connection port on the car? I'll have a look but normal OBD and even the BMW specific Schwaben tool works with the car.

Yep tried all 3 USB ports with our lap top

If you want, I can remote in to do a complete software install for you. If so, just shoot me a PM with your available time(s) and I'll try to align my schedule with yours.

So it just started working randomly; Coded in the CIC, and changed some settings.

Fast forward to now I try to get in and same problem. Coapi2020/IFH0009 codes not letting me connect with the car. JB4 is off, tried both keys and every USB port.

It still works on my 09 335, 07 530 and the 04 x3 but the 07 335 seems to be tempermental. Nothing in the software/datens has changed since I connected last.

Im losing my mind on this

You could be experiencing intermittent issues with your JBE. Or, possibly something wrong with your OBD port.

So after almost of year of screwing around with it I decided to just disconnect the battery, wait a few mins and reconnect.

Works perfectly now (Just for anyone who has the same situation)
