Just did mine today. After replacing the pump, I put the key in and pressed the "START" button without starting the car. Left it for a few minutes. When I went to start the car, it cranked for a few seconds and stopped on its own. I waited a few seconds and did it again. Cranked a few times and started right up. BTW, mine is a 2010 if that makes a difference.

FYI, at 25,451 miles, the computer sensed something that, among other things, caused the dealer to replace my fuel filter. The car was showing an SES light, and I neglected to check the codes before taking it in, so I can't report on that. I had assumed it was just time for the oil change, et al. They changed the "intake silencer" (air filter) too.

Interestingly enough, and I should have questioned them on their logic, they wrote "customer requests fuel filter replacement" on the service record, which was clearly not the case. But I did not have to pay for it.

They alway write "customer states..." For the maintenance item. Fuel filter is tied to the 3 oil change (~30,000) for the diesels I believe. Therefore as per CBS, they replaced it.

I haven't had my 2nd oil change yet.

For the air filter they wrote "Vehicle due for Intake Silencer. Air Filter Dirty. Replaced Intake Silencer." But the oil change didn't show as due, no no oil change nor DEF top up.

FWIW, Fuel filter is every two oil changes on the diesels. Every three on the petrol.

...doing mine tonight along with transmission fluid change if I can work up the energy.

Ok, so I got bored and decided to go for it. FF change took only a handful of minutes once the car was jacked up and the undercarriage protection removed. I then spent quite a few minutes messing around with holding the on button for ten seconds, leaving the car in on, etc, etc. did this probably abut 4-5 times to the tune of 10-15 minutes. During the boredom, I googled fuel primer pumps which are only about 7 dollars and easily would've helped my paranoia which largely was due to the amount of fuel which came out of the old filter are removal (not the few drips which came out of the lines while changing). I'll probably order the BT for next time but the crank is going to happen right now, and survey says...

Started after what felt like 6 hrs of cranking but was actually about 3-5s (2011 MY)

...time to get started on the ATF. Have a good Saturday night, ladies & germs!

Thanks, just verified it in the warranty booklet, FF every 2nd oil change.

Interested to see how your transmission fluid change goes; I was surprised to see it is not part of my extended maintenance package. Therefore, I will do it on my own, since I just hit 60k.

Just drain and refill or will you also flush?

Fluid change was a cake walk, but I just got done doing the same on my wife's x5 (same tranny). It is an integrated filter/pan, thus you just need to drain, drop the pan, replace with new pan & fluids & you're set. Due to my schedule lately, I wasn't able to tackle it until 65k, but I'd recommend performing at 50k.

The one thing that had me irate (there's always got to be one) was that two bolts broke. i've never unintentionally broken a bolt before (on anything vehicularly) and i certainly didnt think i would start with a bolt for which the torque wrench was set for 10nm. Now I've got to CAREFULLY handle that little issue, but otherwise went off without a hitch. Some of them seemed over tightened on their way out, so I'm wondering if they could've been over torqued or otherwise stressed at some point in the car's past. Don't let it scare you off from the job; I think it was purely a fluke. I checked the calibration on my torque wrench against another one and it seemed ok, thus I'm willing to chalk it up to Murphy's law.

So the tranny change uses a consumable filter/pan set? How much is one of those? Perhaps the bolts should be considered a consumable like the copper crush washers on oil drain bolts? Did you just put the car up on four jack stands, or drive up on ramps, or something else? Sorry about all these simple questions, but it has now been more than 7 years since I crawled under a car. I have all the equipment, just not the enthusiasm.

Bolts are reusable however there was a batch for that transmission which were prone to snapping. The dealer has the newer bolts.

Visit thectsc.com for the ZF kit and instructions.

I know this is a bit of a thread jack, but (so everyone knows) the transmission fluid pan is directly adjacent to the fuel filter which is why I timed the change that way. The wires which lead to the FF heater are actually clipped to the ATF Drain Pan.

  • $241 for the whole shabang (here)
  • I'm going to treat mine as such, but honestly, I've changes transmission fluid with these things and other cars with similar little bolts and never even thought about changing them out. I will likely change mine just to be on the safe side due to the breaks, but I don't think it needs to be standard practice.
  • Ramps + jack stands gives plenty of clearance for me + creeper

He's saying it's short 1 liter of fluid and pan screws.

However there are 2 kits for the 26x. One with and one without pan screws. I asked the owner of the website about the 6 vs. 7 liters and he said that the Jaguar is filled with 7.

Oil changes not flushes under their severe service schedule.

I dont recall if my kit from came with pan bolts (if it didnt, the bolts that came out were all ok) but it did come with enough fluid to fill to the spec'd amount

Surprised BMW doesn't agree with this, as they mention changing transmission fluid at 100k in the warranty booklet.

(Probably just trying to pass the cost on to the customers )

Well that is a relief to me, I have been putting off the tranny fluid change for about a year even though I have all the ingredients. I was a bit leery of the project because I seem to have read somewhere that the transmission fluid had to be a certain temperature before you can change it. I don't have a reader which can report the tranny temp. I believe if the tranny fluid is the wrong temperature some wont come out and I could be overfilling it.
