BMW Assist and cellular boosters

Does the BMW Assist system work through cellular or satellite? I'm looking for a cable that connects to the cellular portion of the sharkfin antenna. In my 2009 328iX wagon, there is a Device mounted on the driver's side, rear quarter panel that I believe to be the BMW Assist module. Can anyone confirm this?
If so, since I don't subscribe to BMW Asssist, will disconnecting the antenna connector result in irritating warning lights on my dash? The plan is to attach a cellular booster to the external antenna so that I may eliminate my on-glass cell antenna.

Another option, according to another posting, may be to pick up the cell connection below the emergency brake handle, but I'm unable to confirm that the connector is the correct one. Anyone have experience?

I have lots of experience with cellular boosters if anyone has questions.
