E90 Accessory Voltage Over 12v

I'm installing an aftermarket stereo in my 2007 328i. I'm needing 12v for ACC. The voltage coming off the cigarette lighter fuse is over 12v. I've been getting readings from 16v to 18v. I measured the voltage right off the battery and it's 12v. Any ideas where the extra voltage could be coming from? I don't want to damage the stereo.
