Best 330i Performance Mods?

What's the best way to add a little more pop to an '06 330i? I don't find any well-reviewed chips or software upgrades. I've been reading about the various intakes people around here are using. What else might add a few hp and ft/lbs? FYI, I'm not looking for "sound upgrades", just performance. Thanks!

TMc,

You can always add a little juice here and there onto your 330i with different sorts of mods. They all add up to make a difference. You can get an exhaust, intake, a programmer (if available...i know ActiveAuto is coming out with one--still under development--but once they come out with one, we're definitely going to carry it), suspension, brakes, CF body parts to lighten up your car a little bit. It's not all about gaining HP/TQ, but also your cars handling performance that can make it perform much better..

Gruppe M Intake -

http://www.**********s.com/product.aspx?pf_id=Gruppe_M_Ram_Intake_BMW_RS

^Adds not only sound, but adds some hp/tq--although like all intakes, it's not exactly a HUGE add-on, but it does build up

Supersprint Full Exhaust System -

http://www.**********s.com/product.aspx?pf_id=E90SSPKG_PR

^Nothing better than having a whole exhaust system to add some good power and response

JIC Competition Coilovers (Lighter than stock) -

http://www.**********s.com/product.aspx?pf_id=JIC_Cross_Competition_E90_RS3

^Since you sound like a serious performance driver, you need one of these

UUC SwayBarians -

http://www.**********s.com/product.aspx?pf_id=UUC_SwayBar_E90E92_CS

^Adjustable!

Brembo GT BBK -

And maybe some lightweight wheels, like the LTW D-Force wheels:

^They can go as low as 16 pounds!

Thanks James. My biggest concern is that I've read in a couple of places that the '06 330i's were so well maxed by BMW people were actually LOSING performance when messing with intakes, exhaust, etc. What's you experience with 330i's?

Well lets use the intake as an example--you can definitely lose performance, and I'm sure you understand that, but the reason why one might LOSE performance instead of gain with the intake is because they might not have a properly shielded intake. A properly shielded intake shields the intake of air of under-hood heat. You need the coldest air you can get to see power gains. And an intake that's not properly covered might do a worse job of filtering out dirt than the factory air boxes, causing a not-so-efficient intake.

Cold air is great, this is why there are CAI (Cold-Air Intakes), but people don't like the risk of sucking in water during wet seasons, which is definitely not good news...

Other than that, intakes generally help with the throttle response and has some power gains to provide for you. Looking at the Gruppe M intake, you can tell that is well covered, and it will suck in a good portion of air in through the grill. Don't expect a power-loss with that intake

Just make sure when you're getting exhaust/intake systems, they're quality systems.. You want to make sure the piping doesn't leak or fall apart as time passes. The pictures/links I gave you are of high quality, and it is sure to give you some power that you're looking for.

I know I keep posting this, but there's always someone else who hasn't seen this. GruppeM gained me 5.5 max wHP, and about 7.5 ft lbs of max torque, but clearly throughout the rpm range, HP and torque gains were apparent. See dyno:

Blue line is OEM intake; red line is GruppeM intake.

Thread link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=gruppeM+dyno

I dyno tested the 330i (6MT) before and after the addition of the GruppeM about a half-hour apart on the same day.

That looks like a pretty decent improvement! Thanks for sharing I've seen this before, but I've forgotten you've posted this

James @ **********s really knows his stuff.

I bought the JIC Cross-coil overs and the UUC adjustable sway bars from him. The car feels FANTASTIC! Light weight wheels are a performance enhancer. I can feel the difference in the way the car reacts to the road and acceleration and deceleration due to the lighter wheel/tire combo. I lost about 12lbs. per corner.
