Several retrofits on E90 2010

I bought a used E90 320i from 2010 in Japan, with CIC.

It came without TCU, MULF, Combox, PDC, cameras of any kind, no USB port on the armrest.
It came with basic audio: no tweeters, external amp or processing.

This is what I have done so far:
  • replaced hard disk with IDE-msata adapter and msata SSD
  • programming things: video in motion, removed disclaimer (don't know how to remove reverse gong or enable automatic side mirror unfolding)
  • updated maps to 2020 (can't find anything more recent)

I want to retrofit as much as possible:
  1. Combox
  2. USB on armrest
  3. backing camera
  4. front camera
  5. PDC and sensors (at least rear sensors)
  6. TV tuner
  7. Audio upgrade (big maybe, looks too hard, don't know if it's worth it)

I'm focusing now on the Combox and armrest USB, but I mention the other plans in case it's easier to do several things at once, or it makes any difference on the Combox location/cabling decisions, etc.

I've read many Combox retrofit posts, but they all start with the premise that the car comes with TCU and/or MULF, so the trunk has all the necessary cables. Mine doesn't.

On the trunk I could only find a bundle of cables:
  • MOST (not terminated)
  • Coax cable with purple connector
  • A 54 pin connector which only has 5 cables connected to it:
    1: yellow
    17: orange/yellow
    19: black
    21: transparent
    36: brown

I don't know what these cables are for, but I don't think they're enough for a TCU.
There is not even a metal tray to attach a MULF, TCU or Combox.
I don't know if there is a microphone already preinstalled, how do I find out?

So I have several questions:
  1. Which Combox should I buy?
Everything I've read so far says I should get the BN2000, NOT the BN2010.
And the Telematics has additional functions, but some (or all?) won't work anymore due to BMW discontinuing some services.
  2. Where should I install the Combox?
I prefer it in the trunk, but is it feasible?
Will I have to lay additional cables?
Any good guide on laying cables for this?
  3. How can I find the metal tray to attach the Combox?
  4. Will I have to install a microphone? Any good guides on this?
  5. Any good guides on installing the armrest USB port?
Thanks in advance.

oh boy.... be prepared to do a lot of work. I've retrofitted usb audio so I can try answering a few questions

first of all because you are missing alot of wiring compared to PRE-LCI E90s, this retrofit process will be extra complicated

And the Telematics has additional functions, but some (or all?) won't work anymore due to BMW discontinuing some services.
The service BMW North America canceled is BMW Assist, basically the car is supposed to call for help automatically with your GPS coordinate if it detects a crash with airbags deployed
This is confirmed for BMW North America, but please check BMW Japan, they might have different policy, or they might not offer the service at all.

I don't know what these cables are for, but I don't think they're enough for a TCU.
although it is missing a lot of wires, the white plug is meant to be used for TCU
brown wire is ground
red-yellow wire is power
yellow wire, black wire, and transparent wire is for microphone I believe

you are definitely missing telematics wire for TCU in the trunk

Where should I install the Combox?
I prefer it in the trunk, but is it feasible?

combox will have to be installed in the trunk, that is where it is installed officially from the factory

How can I find the metal tray to attach the Combox?
you will need a bracket to hold the combox in the back of your trunk
part number (65159135687) use the two 10mm screws in your first picture to hold the bracket in place, the combox will be held by 8mm nuts I believe, you can either get it from the dealer or get lucky in the scrap yard

Will I have to install a microphone?
microphone will be used for telephone calls
based on the lack of any modules in your picture, you definitely will need to install a microphone

follow this to install microphone/check if you do have it for sure
https://speed.academy/bmw-e92-e90-33...rofit-install/

The retrofit process is a lot more complicated than what I can put in words here.... But I am available for a zoom call to explain this in detail if you're interested

Connection diagram

Well, I tried to contact @sam9116 privately, but he must be busy.

Can anyone confirm if this connection diagram is correct?

Edit: updated link to diagrams.net, it should work now.

An export looks like this:

Where are you based? I have a combox, mounting bracket and entire combox loom from a 2011 e92 M3 (factory CIC). It came with the individual audio kit I bought. I'm not sure if the internal antennas are there, I need to check. I just took the speaker loom out of it and put the rest of the loom away. An e92 loom might be a too short for an e90, you would need to check. I can take measurements for you if you want.

I also have the HK kit that came out of my own e92 M3

lol I also bought an e92 loom off an 2009 M3, fits perfectly in my e90

(only issue was the power cable for USB hub/MULF was routed to the white plug inside the glove box where the microphone wire resides, but I did not have any power cable on my end for the white plug inside the glove box, I had to find another power source)

there is this dude who retrofitted a Gen 2 BN2000 Combox that is capable of working with BMW assist because it uses 4G instead of 2G. That is something significant to consider when retrofitting combox

Yes, I'm interested in anything I can retrofit on my very basic e90.
I'm located in Japan, if you want you can post this stuff on Ebay or something and send me the link(s).
