If you guys ever cross the border into the USA (which I do a few times a year), check this out

Low profile 1.5 ton $70
http://www.harborfreight.com/rapid-p...NzgxNCJ9%0D%0A

Or the heavey duty one which I got for $80
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-l...8050-8048.html

Do a search for Harbour Freight coupons and you'll normally find a 20-30% off or coupons for the jack. I picked up their 3 ton stands for $15.

That latest CT one seems ok, actually, on sale, as it says it's got a dual pump mechanism. It weighs 63 pounds supposedly.

If I was just to wait it out at CT for one to go on sale (usually half off), I'd put this Michelin one on Sale Alert though, same specs, and lifts 24", but weighs 100 pounds!

This one from HF seems really nice, is just a bit more, but since it's aluminum, weighs only 43 pounds. Plus, it's nice because its min height is 3.25 inches, whereas the CT one is 4 inches. I haven't lowered my car, but it's pretty low and I've got to check if 4 inches squeezes under it - don't want to bother with the PITA of 2x4's... The current one I have (from post 1) goes as low as 3.5 inches, and it barely fits.

Starting this Friday (Sep 20th), the much lighter (27 lbs) racing jack will be on sale at $99 instead of $199. I'll be getting one .

Just as a word of warning, I had this one to replace my heavy jack and it didn't last two seasons of use for just changing tires. When you open and close the valve, there's an elbow connector piece that's held in with a single pin. While changing tires last spring, the actual piece sheared off WITH MY CAR STILL UP. (I had to finish the one tire and then lower my car using a screw driver). Looked it up and apparently it's a common problem with many owners of this kind of jack. It could be a hit and miss thing and I just got a dud but still, that's pretty scary for the handle to break right off when you're trying to lower the vehicle down.

The engineering side of me kicked in: the design is just bad because that small pin is the achilles heel to an otherwise great jack. I ended up buying a cheap $60 jack just to get the job done and I'm waiting on the 3.5 ton garage jack to be on sale again. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en (that's the one I bought before and I used it to change tires of my car, my family's, and friends and that includes SUV's).

I would recommend the heavy duty jacks over the "racing" jacks if you want it to last.

Weight savings vs. durability.

Weight savings wins in my case, I do 15 to 18 track days a season. That is a lot of handling of the jack. Quite a few of my track buddies have the CT racing jack and so far so good. Further, for $99, it's not a bad deal even it becomes a "consumable" item...

I have two jacks. The princess Auto one which is very similar to the Harbor freight one posted above. I bought it on sale for $120 and it works great. Have had it for more than 4 years now. I also got another one from Costco for $120 also. http://content.costco.ca/Images/Cont.../220205cLL.jpg

I've had this jack for years. No issues at all.
