Xenon HID

Hey guys, new to the forum and wondering if I need to install an HID kit for the low beam of my xenon headlights or if I can just replace the bulb to get a good quality output. I'm asking this because in my old mercedes, I had xenons and I just replaced the bulb because they had their own HID ballast installed into it. I've been tryin to stff and can't find a clear answer so please be easy on me if I didn't look hard enough.

You can install an HID kit in your existing housings but I don't recommend it. You will get significant glare from the reflector housings so you are better off with a standard hyperwhite bulb upgrade like the Xenesis Tru Match or a full projector replacement like the Projector90s.

Alright thanks, I think I'll go that route.

I have an 06 325i that came with halogens.. I've been safely running an H7 kit for 1 1/2 years. You can remove the reflector inside the headlight with little effort. I just made sure to point the headlights down to not disturb other drivers "Much"

On the same note, i spent $300 on a MTEC HID kit and it was a waste. Spent $130 on a local store for HID kit and cancelers and they work awesome.

It still blinds oncoming drivers and cheapens the look of the car. Not to mention it is illegal.

Can anyone suggest the best brand of bulbs that give a 6000k output?

Are the D1S bulbs HID with like a tiny ballast in it or are they just bulbs? It seems like an HID bulb, but in any case, I wanna know a good set of bulbs that I can buy.

just a base, you need a xenon ballast in order for the D1S to turn on

D1S bulbs have an igniter built in to the bottom which is the large metal box you see attached to the bulb element itself. The ballast is separate and built into the OE headlight.

Makes sense, just like the Mercedes xenon then. So the D1S will work with my xenon headlights then?

I need your input. Would be OK to replace stock hi-beam halogen light bulb for one like this Silverstar Ultra H7 to match my low beam xenon? Some people suggest not to do it because too much heat can damage UV protection coating on the headlight. I just want to prevent this look. Thanks.
