E91 Key Fob Not Working

Hi folks,

Been picking my hair out with this one. Hoping someone can shed some light.

My E91 key fob is no longer working to lock/unlock/boot lock. The fob is not comfort access so doesn’t have a replaceable battery and unfortunately I don't have a spare to test.

I used BimmerLink to scan and the following code was found.
ABEB: OxABEB: Error in the connection diversity to the antennas

I began by checking all central locking fuses and all are good.
Then proceeded with checking voltages on the diversity antenna under the spoiler.
Wire 1: 12v
Wire 2: 5v
Wire 3:0.5v??
Wire 4: 0.3v but reads 12v when the car is ‘woken up’

I believe wire 3 needs to read 5v so I went and bought a used replacement diversity antenna from eBay and fitted it today and no luck with the key fob and all the voltages were reading the same as previous.

Does anyone know where wire 3 voltage goes to and does anyone have a diagram for this?
Am I right in thinking wire 3 is 5v from the board therefore it shows that the board is faulty? That’s what I thought but the recent replacement proved different.

Anything else I can check on this??

Thanks in advance

What year is your car? Check the ground connections for the antenna, sometimes they do get corroded.

Hi, I have a 320i E93 and i also have the ABEB error code, apparently it has something to do with the RAD2 module (radio), I have had it for a long time and my key fob works just fine.

I would suggest to start looking for any parameters that may have been changed in the RAD2 module, or something regarding the VO of the car.

Cheers

FIXED:

In my case, with another BMW E91 (2006), a wire had rusted right outside the diversity module. It was very, very hard to notice — the wire had gotten pierced somewhere, and as a result, water got in and caused green corrosion — exactly on the signal wire. It wasn’t even at a bend, just on a straight section.

I also replaced the diversity module, checked the bending points, the fuses — everything looked fine, even an auto electrician couldn’t find the issue. I gave up for a while, but after 5 months I decided to look into it again and finally found the cause.

In another BMW E91 (2007), the problem was in the tailgate hinge area, where the wires had broken. After rejoining them, that one started working too.

Here are image how it was on 2006 (Already cutted that area)

e93 is a different type of car and has antenna for key fob in interior mirror
so that usually mean that someone swapped your interior mirror with version from e90 e92 e91
