Resetting brake pad service interval.
I’m in the middle of googling this but wondered if I’ll get better advice from one of you guys. I changed all the brake pads yesterday, front and rear. As I didn’t have a warning light I didn’t bother changing the sensors. The pads that have the sensors in them hadn’t worn enough to get to the sensors so I thought all was good. One of the inner pads was worn almost to the metal and a couple of the others had the friction material lifting away from the backing plates so they definitely needed doing!
I’ve gone to it this morning to try resetting the miles left using a YouTube video as a guide. I’ve now got _ _ _ _ _ miles showing for front and rear and the red car up in the air symbol I’ve just read a post saying even if the sensors aren’t worn they need changing because each sensor has different resistance so the car knows the sensors haven’t been replaced so assumes the pads haven’t either. Is this true? I think I’ll order some sensors anyway but just wondered or can Carly or inpa overcome this? |

You should be able to do this in i-drive if you have it.
When I did mine I certainly did not involve any external readers but then again I did replace the sensors for the sake of a few quid and the fact I destroyed the old ones getting them out anyway! I cannot remember offhand the i-drive procedure but it seemed fairly intuitive if you are used to scrolling through the menus. |

Just tried with carly. A message came up saying "The brake pad wear sensors have to be changed with the brakes as well. A service reset for the brakes with old sensors is not possible"
Thats that then. Got some ordered. |

As you can see, they needed doing! The badly worn one was an iside pad so i couldn't see how bad it was from looking through the wheel.

To be fair, i haven't cheaped out on the pads, gone for Brembo's, i always do.
Anyway, pagid sensors from ECP are £20 the pair and have done the trick. 41,000 miles left on the front and 49,000 for the rears Just gotta keep the car going that long to get my moneys worth. It's on 150,000 now so not being a fragile petrol should be a breeze |

Maybe if you have worn any of the sensor away then it recognises it and asks you to replace the sensor? |
