Yes they will check and apply the QE to you're car once it is in the dealership.
Thanks kris, obviously if there is a problem whats the turn around time on a timing chain? Do they offer a loan car on recall stuff?

Did the N57 not suffer similar issues to the N47?

This is interesting as we had a timing chain failure on my wife's E87 a couple of months ago and it was all taken care of (100% parts and labour) by BMW. I suspect they would have known this was in the pipeline at that time.

Bill would have come to £5,350 ish so good job they picked up the tab as the car is a 2008 120d with 119k on the clock and therefore worth about £5k....

I'm in no way diminishing the utterly sterling job that our now 'fave' BMW dealership did in securing said goodwill from BMW. Thanks Soper BMW Lincoln (JP).

Thanks for sharing.
Mak,I had a quick glance over the bulletin and it only states E series. The F series had the updated n47 as far as I'm aware.
Thanks mate.
Noticed that early F10 (2010) N47 had timing chain issues. I found that owners were getting rid of them on ebay after work was done at bmw.

KrisM79:

Do you know if this is for UK only or for a larger area? In a swedish forum we are talking about the bulletin that arrived early this year. But according to the requests made at BMW dealers, it seems that it's most, but not exclusive, cars from early model years that are covered by that bulletin.

This is interesting. I have the 2011 318d LCI and I think mine has the N47 if I'm not mistaken?

On a sidenote my housemate has the 2006 318d, will his also have the N47?

I think I will give BMW a call tomorrow also, great thread

September 2007 (57 plate) is when the N47 was introduced in the E90/91.

I think it came a few months earlier to the E92 and 5 series.

just sold the family 320d 08 reg because of this. it wasnt knocking at all but its history never stated it had been done and i couldnt trust it

theres one car i will never buy and it is a 57-2010 2.0d bmw engine. ive heard peoples car when they turn it on and im a few houses down and can hear the horrible ticking!

question is if i kept the car BMW would of fixed it free even if it didnt have Full BMW service history or warranty?

My local dealer has said that my car doesn't have any outstanding QEs.

Mine is a mid 2011 car which is a N47T im guessing. Maybe its only available on the older versions of the N47?

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but do I contact any BMW dealer and ask about this Quality Enhancement?
