Tyre sizes
Howdy all, I have a 3 series 318d M sport
My tyre sizes in the front differ from the rear. On the front I have 225/45 R17 and in the rear I have 255/40 R17 One of the rears has an issue and I think it would be best to put a new tyre on. My question is can I put 225/45 R17(as on my front) all round the car without having to change the wheel? On the tyre pressure sticker inside the door it has 225/45 R17 for front and back. Thanks in advance. |

I assume you currently have the staggered wheels. In that case, not recommended to put 225's on the rear wheels. The non M-Sport versions will have 225/45 17's all round but also the same wheels front & back- explaining the labelling. Appreciate that the 225's are quite a bit cheaper. If you do go that route and get hold of correct wheels, then bear in mind that the combination doesn't look quite as sporting with the reduced track on the rear - doesn't fill the wheel arches to the same degree. I run staggered in summer and a set with 225's all round in the winter so can compare the difference directly.
