Are charge pipes from 07-08 stronger than 09+

I'm helping out a newbie on reddit, and he's saying that he heard the charge pipes were stronger in 07 and 08. I don't particularly believe him, but I thought I'd ask. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

I have never heard of anyone breaking a (07/08). I am FBO/meth/hybrid turbos 20+ psi on the xi and still on stock charge pipe (5 years). I would argue that the shorter pipe would put less torque on the TB flange but both long and short pipes have a bolt that supports them so I dunno.

lol sounds like it's the other way around.

The 09+ has obvious weak points compared to the older MYs. Looking at pics of both and/or a simple search would have told you that.

They're a bit stronger but the cost of a chargepipe now is equal to the cost of a tow. I wouldn't risk it

i agree...just upgrade to a aluminum charge pipe...there cheap enough.

stock charge pipe never broke on my 07 running s2+. when i flashed s2+ for a friend on his 09, first pull and we were back to changing out the charge pipe

The stock charge pipe on my 08' XI held on while tuned for 5+ years, never once came off

But you should still upgrade. Metal > Plastic

I've heard that the 07-08 are a little more stout but I never had problems with either one. 166k on my 07 tuned since brand new, and I had 120k on my 09 boosting 18.5psi on stock charge pipe with zero issues.
